Multiple Measures - Alternatives to Placement Test

TCC also evaluates by multiple measures. Contact Assessment Services if you have:

  • SAT scores and ACT scores (2 years old or less): TCC will accept SAT scores for placement purposes of college-level English and math. Students will need a Reading score of 470 or higher for ENGL 101 and a score of 550 or above for MATH 107, 146, 147, 131, 132, 93/136 and 96/140. SAT scores will be good for 2 years after graduation from high school. ACT scores: 19 for English 101 - No MATH equivalent at this time.
  • Math Classes from Tacoma, Peninsula, or University Place School Districts (within 1 year of graduation): Graduates have an opportunity to articulate through math based on classes and grades at the high school level.
  • Tacoma Public Schools - Core to College English Placement - If you are a recent or soon to be graduate you many qualify for placement by using your Transcript. Please contact Assessment at placement@tacomacc.edu. Tacoma Public Schools only at this time.
  • Advanced Placement (AP) scores (pdf) - The chart included in this document represents the credits TCC will award for each Advanced (AP) exam. Official Test Scores are required for TCC credit, and must be sent directly to TCC from the College Board.
  • Cambridge International (CI) scores (pdf) - The chart included on this page represents course equivalencies awarded for each Cambridge International (CI) exam score and recognized by all community and technical colleges in Washington.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Test Scores (pdf) – This chart represents course equivalencies awarded each International Baccalaureate (IB) exam score. All community and technical colleges in Washington recognize these score equivalencies. Colleges may award additional credits based on local policies, when appropriate, but should not award course equivalency credit for scores lower than those listed in this table. Students interested in transferring to a four-year university should check the requirements of their target school to determine the best way to use their IB exam credits.
  • Smarter Balance Scores. Agreement on the use of the Smarter Balanced 11th grade career and college readiness assessment for placement in Washington community and technical colleges.
