College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Tacoma Community College grants up to 30 credits toward the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degrees. In accordance with national CLEP recommendations, TCC will offer credit for World Languages and Sociology as follows:

Introductory Sociology 50 or higher SOC& 101 Introduction to Sociology, (5credits)
Spanish Language 50 or higher SPAN& 121, SPAN& 122, SPAN& 123 Spanish I, II and III, (15 credits max.)
Spanish Language 68 or higher SPAN& 221, SPAN& 222, SPAN& 223 Intermediate Spanish I, II, III, (15 credits max.)
German Language 50 or higher GERM& 121, GERM& 122, GERM& 123 German I, II and III, (15 credits max.)
German Language 68 or higher GERM& 221, GERM& 222, GERM& 223 Intermediate German I, II and III, (15 credits max.)

To qualify for CLEP credit, students need to be enrolled at Tacoma Community College. Credit cannot be granted for courses which students have already earned academic credit and a grade. Students should check the CLEP policies at the intended transfer institutions and ensure that CLEP credit awarded by TCC will be recognized by the other university before considering taking the CLEP and requesting credit through TCC.

Tacoma Community College grants up to 30 credits toward the Associate in General Studies degree to students who score at the 50th percentile or above on the CLEP General Examination. Credit may be granted for other degrees and for CLEP Subject Examinations with division or department chairperson approval.
