TCC MESA Students Complete Sustainability Garden Improvements

This summer TCC MESA students completed projects to enhance the TCC Sustainability Garden, located at the south end of Parking Lot K. The improvements, which include a podium and seating area as well as new raised half-pipe planters, were planned by former TCC Sustainability Garden Coordinator, the late Kathy Wright, and carried out by by MESA students with guidance from retired Engineering and STEM Mentor Michael Hale, who volunteered his time to lead the project. Associate Director of Student Engagement Jessica Ramirez helped supervised the students. 

"After Kathy’s passing, several people were committed to seeing her vision come to life in her honor,” said MESA Director Adrienne Scarcella.

Ultimately, the project provided a paid, hands-on experience for students from several STEM disciplines.

“The students who worked on the project were all MESA students, and it was wonderful to see them contribute their skills to a project that both honored Kathy’s vision and benefited the campus community,” Scarcella said.
