My name is Alisa Ulferts Birkenstein (please call me Alisa, pronounced uh-LEE-sa), and I am excited to work with you over the next 10 weeks as you grow your own natural writing skills and gain confidence in your ability to "do college." I have lived in Washington State since 2012, the year I joined TCC. Prior to that I spent five years teaching high school in New York City, and prior to that I spent 12 years as a newspaper reporter in Florida. I have a spouse and two fur babies - Kota and Blanco, both of the feline persuasion, both self-selected rescues. I enjoy hiking in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, spending time with friends and in solitude. I believe deeply in the benefits of re-reading books.
