Health Information Technology (HIT) Admissions Process

  1. Complete the HIT virtual information session.
    The 2017-18 Virtual Information Session provides background on the HIT profession, TCC’s HIT program and steps for getting started.
  2. Apply to the college and finish prerequisite courses.
    If you have questions about the enrollment process and completing prerequisite courses, contact Advising in TCC Bldg. 7 or call 253.566.6091.
  3. Communicate with HIT faculty advisors.
  4. Once you have completed the virtual information session and all adult basic education and HIT prerequisite courses, contact the following HIT advisor for advice on enrolling in the HIT program. Do this the quarter before you expect to start courses.

  5. Register for classes.
    The HIT program advisor will help you map out the courses you need to take. The HIT program runs on a space-available basis and is not selective entry. Each course has a limited number of seats.The HIT program admits in the fall. Students will begin enrolling in courses in mid-May during Spring quarter. Students who are currently enrolled as of Spring term will be given an earlier enrollment date which can assist in securing a spot in the Fall cohort.

 

Medical Billing Specialist (MBS) Admissions Process 

  1. Apply to the college and finish the prerequisite course. If you have questions about the enrollment process and completing prerequisite courses, contact Advising in TCC Bldg. 7 or call 253-566-6091. 
  2. Once you have met with General Advising, completed all adult basic education and MBS prerequisite courses, contact the following advisor for advice on enrolling the MBS program. Do this the quarter before you expect to start courses: Jonathan Eastabrooks, jeastabrooks@tacomacc.edu, 253-566-5228. 
  3. Register for classes. The MBS program advisor will help you map out the courses you need to take. The MBS program runs on a space-available basis and is not selective entry. Each course has a limited number of seats. The MBS program admits in the winter. Students will begin enrolling in courses in mid-October during fall quarter. Students who are currently enrolled as of fall quarter will be given an earlier enrollment date which can assist in securing a spot in the winter cohort.
