Who We Are

The TCC Archives works to support the college mission of meaningful learning, inspiring equity and celebrating success in the lives of the college and community members. TCC has a long history of social engagement and the archive works to reflect this element of the college, focusing on student and faculty activism, community engagement and the history of the college in Tacoma. TCC’s Archives is a treasured collection of school- and student-related historical materials available for student, faculty or public research.

Our extensive collection stretches back to 1965, when TCC first opened its doors. It contains primary source documents, including course catalogs, yearbooks, sports memorabilia, oral histories, faculty papers, student publications, photographs, and much more.

Common items we collect include photographs, both digital and film. Course materials, Club materials, including meeting minutes, promotional artwork, and event posters as well as oral histories and student publications.

60th Anniversary History Exhibition

60 years of TCC history are stewarded in the TCC Archives, including photos, publications, interviews, and more. These unique materials will illustrate the college's story with a history exhibition on campus as a celebration of TCC’s 60th anniversary. Health Careers programs at TCC started as early as 1968, but have grown and evolved to match changing needs and emerging technologies.

In 1969, TCC's Black student union, the Obi Society, and allied students presented eleven demands on behalf of Black students. The college's response laid the foundation of our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

TCC has supported instruction and programming at numerous locations throughout the South Sound across its history, but its most significant extension is the Gig Harbor campus, constructed in 1995.

TCC has always welcomed students from all over the world. The International Students Organization (ISO) formed in 1969 to share culture and community. Tacoma's sister city relationships with Kitakyushu, Japan and Gunsan, South Korea have led to rewarding exchanges between those cities' universities and TCC since 2004.
