State Employee Tuition Waiver

This tuition waiver is for permanent college employees pursuant to RCW 28B.15.558. The employee is responsible for all applicable course fees. This waiver may be used for up to 2 classes, not to exceed 10 credits total per quarter. This waiver may not be used for selective entry programs. Registration is copmleted by Enrollment Services staff on a space available basis.

Senior Citizen Waiver

60 years of age or older? 70 percent of tuition and S&A fees for students who qualify as senior citizens enrolled in classes for credit pursuant to RCW 28B.15.540. The waiver is not available to students using the course credits for increasing credentials or salary schedule increases. Students who wish to enroll in classes on an audit basis will be charged a fee of five dollars per quarter and are responsible for all fees, aside from S&A. These are space-available waivers and students may register for no more than 2 courses per quarter and must be state residents. 

Senior Citizen Tuition Reduction

 

BEdA Accelerated Learning Tuition Reduction

Students pursuing High School Completion through the BEdA Accelerated Learning program may be eligible for a 75% tuition reduction, as authorized under RCW 28B.15.520.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students must be enrolled in an approved BEdA Accelerated Learning course.
  • Enrollment is only available upon approval from the BEdA department.
  • Students must not already possess a high school diploma.

BEdA Accelerated Learning Tuition Reduction

Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Law Enroforcement Officers or Firefighters Waiver

Tacoma Community College will waive all tuition (operating and building fees) and services and activities fees for the children and surviving spouses of deceased or disabled law enforcement officers or firefighters. Eligible children must begin their course of study at a community college within 10 years of high school graduation. The officers and firefighters must have died or become totally disabled in the line of duty while employed by a public law enforcement agency, full-time or volunteer fire department in this state. Totally disabled is defined as totally and permanently disabled for life by bodily injury or disease and thereby prevented from performing any occupation or gainful pursuit RCW 28B.15.520(2)(a)-(b).

Law Enforcement Officers/Firefighter Deceased/Disabled Tuition Waiver 

Waiver of Tuition & Fees for Children and Spouse or the Domestic Partner of Totally Disabled or POW/MIS or Deceased Eligible Veterans or National Guard Members

Tacoma Community College will waive 100% of tuition & fees for the children and spouse of an eligible veteran or National Guard member who:

  • Has become totally disabled in the line of duty or;
  • Is determined by the federal government to be a prisoner of war or missing in action or;
  • Has lost his or her life while engaged in active federal military or naval service. 

A child must be a Washington state resident between the ages of 17 and 26 to be eligible for the tuition waiver, and the child's marital status does not affect eligibility. Please note that while Chapter 35 eligibility may supersede the limit of 26, the state waiver currently does not.

A surviving spouse must be a Washington state resident and has up to 10 years from the date of the death, total disability, or federal determination of prisoner of war or missing in action status of the eligible veteran or National Guard member to receive the benefit. Upon remarriage, the surviving spouse is ineligible for the tuition waiver. Contact the VA office for eligibility at va@tacomacc.edu.
