Kalina Cordero
College Success Coach

I wouldn't be where I am without mentors in my life."
If you attend Lincoln, Mount Tahoma, or Foss High Schools in Tacoma, you may work with an advisor from College Success Foundation to help you learn more about and prepare for college. But did you know that you can keep getting that same support when you start college? Meet Kalina Cordero, a College Success Coach who works at TCC and PLU.
Kalina works with graduates of College Success Foundation (CSF) partner schools (Lincoln, Mount Tahoma, and Foss) on anything related to their academic success. And it’s not just about how well you do in class. Finance and financial aid, health, relationships, families, identities; there are many factors that contribute to your ability to succeed in college.
“Coaching is meeting a person in the moment and coming up with a plan to work toward their goals,” Kalina said.
Kalina says that reasons to engage with the program include priority consideration for CSF scholarships and having a trusted adult to be there for you, listen to you, and brainstorm ways to make it through challenges.
“I wouldn’t be where I am without mentors in my life,” Kalina said.
You’ll find Kalina in The Center for Student Advocacy and Cultural Support, also known as “The Center,” which is located on the first floor of Building 11. You can make an appointment to meet with Kalina one-on-one, and she also holds drop-in sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sometimes she partners with other TCC programs, like Men of Distinction and Women of Impact, to take students to enrichment activities held off campus.
“If your plan is to go to TCC or PLU, you’ll have an adult in your corner that you can go to as often or as little as you want. I’m just here to support,” Kalina said.
