New Chances

Do you have a dream but keep bumping against barriers from past mistakes?

New Chances provides individualized support to students who have had involvement with the criminal justice system. We understand education is an important stepping stone to a better life and want to help you reach your dreams.

New Chances offers students support through what can be a challenging life transition by providing:

  • Bridge support to help students before and after release
  • Assistance with enrollment and accessing financial aid
  • Community resource referrals

If you are homeless:

  • Access Point 4 Housing offers a point of entry for households experiencing homelessness. Call 253-682-3401 Phone lines are open 11am-3pm
  • Rescue Mission offers shelters for men, women and families. Call 253+383-4493
  • TCC’s Housing Program offers a limited amount of housing vouchers for TCC students. This program’s waitlist opens biannually. Announcements are sent through student email to alert student body when the waitlist opens.

  • Washington State Bonding ProgramThis program provides, at no cost to the employer or applicant, individual fidelity bonds to employers for applicants who are, or may be, denied coverage by commercial carriers because of their at-risk status. The fidelity bonds issued by the WBP function as an employer job-hire incentive.
  • Metropolitan Development Council, Employment Services Provided one-on-one career coaching, resume review workshops, interviewing, and monthly hiring events.


  • TCC’s Counseling Service is free of charge for TCC students. They are available to provide support with your personal, career or academic goals. Located in Building 7
  • Recovery Café Located at 1143 Tacoma Ave S, Tacoma WA 98402
  • Re-Entry Network Café a group of reintegrated citizens sharing dreams, goals, and experience to those seeking to overcome barriers as they seek employment and resources. Our mission is to provide a safe place for individuals to talk freely, network, and receive encouragement and inspiration in a time of personal and social changes.
    • Meets: 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at 6PM - 7:30PM Saturday groups pending
