Molecular biology focuses on the interactions between systems in cells. Concepts in molecular biology can overlap with biochemistry and genetics in the search to understand how living things are created and function together in our world.

Program Description

TCC offers courses that cover the first 2 years of a typical 4-year college biology program (college-level courses) as well as courses to develop math skills needed for college-level courses.

Program Planning

High School Preparation: While in high school, students should pursue all the available courses in mathematics, chemistry, biology, and physics.

Recommended Class Schedule: We suggest the following schedule of classes for students who wish to earn the Associate of Sciences degree (college transfer).

  • Some students may need to take additional prerequisite courses.
  • The humanities and social science courses must be chosen from the humanities and social science distribution course lists.
  • At least one course must be chosen from the list of approved multicultural courses on the Approved Distribution Course List.
  • PHYS 114, 115 and 116 or PHYS 221, 222, and 223 are strongly recommended as elective courses.
  • PE activity courses cannot be used as elective courses.
  • A maximum of 5 credits of electives can be from courses that do not appear on the basic requirements list of the Associate in Arts and Sciences Degree Option A or on the Approved Distribution Course List. Such courses must be approved by a molecular biology advisor.
