For the TCC EMS Program

Curriculum

There are two separate certificates EMHS students can obtain. The 12-credit Emergency Medical Technician Basic Certificate must be completed before entering the Paramedic program.

Students who want to obtain an Associate of Applied Science degree may complete an additional 42 credits as specified below.

EMS Basic Certificate

(12 credits)

The 12-credit Emergency Medical Technician Basic Certificate must be completed before entering the Paramedic program. No formal application is necessary.

Paramedic Certificate Program

This 61-credit program starts summer quarter and is completed over four consecutive quarters.

 Pre-requisite courses must be completed prior to program application.  These include:

  • Human Biology (BIOL &175) - 5 credits
  • Medical Terminology (HIT 130) - 3 credits

Associate of Applied Science Degree

(107 credits)

The AAS degree in Emergency Medical & Health Services requires the completion of the Paramedic certificate (69 credits) and an additional 42 credits of required degree courses. With the exception of EMC 200, students may take all of the required degree courses in advance of the Paramedic certificate program.

Careers

This program is structured so that students can begin work in the Emergency Health Services field after obtaining the EMT-Basic certificate, and continue to add credentials for career advancement options. A career and education progression might include: 

  • EMT-Basic Certificate 
  • Paramedic Certificate 
  • Associate of Applied Science Degree (Paramedic Certificate + 42 credits) 
  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Community Health

Tuition calculations are based on 2018-2019 rates for resident status. Please refer to the Tuition table for other rates.
