Board of Trustees

Tacoma Community College's Board of Trustees is a 5-member policy-making body. Its members are appointed by Washington's Governor to five-year terms.

Community Leadership

The Board of Trustees for Tacoma Community College is composed of influential community members who live within the College's service area. They are a crucial link between the needs of the Tacoma community and the services offered by TCC.

All trustees sit as members of the Trustees Association of Community and Technical College which is comprised of trustees from the 34 community and technical colleges statewide.

gretchenGretchen Adams
Gretchen was appointed to the TCC Board in November 2013. She is co-founder and President of Systems Consulting, LLC. She is currently a member of the Strategic Planning & Youth Exchange Committee, Tacoma Rotary 8, Board member of the Multicare Foundation, a member of Women in Transportation, a member of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials, American Leadership Forum, and has hosted several exchange students. She is also a former member of the Lindquist Children Dental Clinics Marketing Committee, the Northwest Sinfonietta Advisory Board, and Northwest BookFest Board of Directors. Gretchen attended Eastern Kentucky University.

James was appointed to the TCC Board of Trustees in May 2015. Curtis currently serves in the Pierce County Prosecutor’s office in the Robbery/Assault unit. He mentors youth from his old neighborhood, Tacoma’s Hilltop, and serves as a coach and motivational speaker. A Stadium High School graduate, Curtis enrolled at Tacoma Community College when he decided it was time to pursue his dream of becoming a lawyer. He graduated with his AA degree in 1999. He continued his education at the University of Washington, graduating with a Sociology degree in 2001 and a Juris Doctorate in 2005.

Bernstein begins her term in January 2017. As Chief Community Executive, Bernstein oversees MultiCare’s community presence and partnerships with organizations in MultiCare’s service area. Bernstein joined MultiCare in 1998, and has overseen both support and clinical departments including Marketing and Communications, Philanthropy, Healthy Living, Adult Day Health, Home Health & Hospice and Government Affairs. Prior to her tenure at MultiCare, Bernstein served in leadership positions at Mercy Hospital and ScrippsHealth in San Diego. Bernstein earned her BA in communications from Michigan State University, her MS in Rehabilitation Counseling from San Diego State University, and her MBA from University of California, Irvine. Bernstein serves as a board member for the Foundation for Tacoma Students and the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center. She is a senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum.

Liz was appointed to the TCC Board of Trustees in October 2010. Liz is Executive Director for Tacoma Community House. She came to the Tacoma area as Executive Director of the Asian American Alliance. She was appointed Executive Director to the State Commission on Asian American Affairs, then moved to DSHS as state Refugee coordinator and director of the refugee program, then regional director for Pierce and Kitsap counties diversity director, director of policy for Public Assistance and Employment Programs, Assistant Secretary for Economic Services, and finally Deputy Services. She then joined the board of Tacoma Community House where she was named Executive Director in 2009. She serves on the boards of the Japanese American Citizens' League, Pioneer Human Services, and the LASCO Foundation.

Bob was appointed to the TCC Board of Trustees in December 2010. Bob is President of Ryan, Jorgenson & Limoli, PS, a public accounting firm in Gig Harbor. His affiliations include: The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Gig Harbor Rotary. He is a member of the Franciscan Foundation, and is on the steering committee of St. Anthony's Hospital. Recent past affiliations include president (and founder) of the Peninsula Schools Education Foundation, Chairman of the Narrows Bridge Citizen Advisory Committee, Scoutmaster, District Chairman, and District Treasurer of the Boy Scouts of America. Ryan is a graduate of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.
