Are sexual orientation and gender identity included in the non-discrimination policy?

Both sexual orientation and gender identity are included in the college's equal opportunity policy. Additionally, the City of Tacoma municipal code prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity (Chapter 1.29 of the code).

Is there an active LGBT student organization (GSA)?

The Pride and Allies Club (PAC) is TCC's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and ally alliance. It is recognized and funded by the Associated Student Body of TCC (student government). According to their mission statement, "To promote awareness about sexual orientation issues on campus and to create supportive relationships in the community. " PAC functions primarily as a political and social organization. The group welcomes all who are interested.

Are LGBT sensitive counseling services available?

The counseling staff in the Counseling and Advising Center are very supportive. All services provided through the Counseling and Advising Center are private and confidential.

Are other campus offices supportive and inclusive of LGBT students and issues?

Non-discrimination and inclusion of LGBT people at TCC is a college policy.

What activities are sponsored on campus for LGBT students?

Several activities focused on LGBT students occur throughout the year at TCC. PAC sponsored events include weekly meetings and a popular drag show. TCC supports these events and also coordinates others including films, speakers and celebrations for Pride month.

Is there a clear procedure for reporting LGBT-related bias incidents and hate crimes? How does the school respond to such incidents?

The campus takes any incident of LGBT bias or harassment seriously. Concerns or complaints may be brought to Associate Vice President of Student Services or any Safe Zone member. In the event of hate incidents, the AVP of Student Services both investigates the situation and responds to affected individuals and groups through clear statements of affirmation, educational programs and other appropriate support. Both informal and formal processes, including the Students Rights and Responsibilities Code, can be used to address threatening or discriminatory behavior in the campus community.

Are supportive faculty and staff easily identifiable?

There is an active Safe Zone Initiative on campus that involves public display of stickers designating LGBT-friendly spaces. The Safe Zone logo can be found as stickers in or around each members work space, on their directory listing and some faculty have included it on the their webpage. In order to be designated with a Safe Zone sticker, each person must complete the Safe Zone workshop.

Does the school offer domestic partner benefits?

Domestic partner benefits are available for partners of faculty and staff.
