Sometimes, we all have a problem we can't solve on our own. As counselors, we believe there are times when each one of us needs to share a problem with someone else so we may see ourselves more clearly. With a TCC Counselor you may find ways to better deal with family, marital, interpersonal, school, drug and alcohol, or any other problems that interfere with your educational progress. Counseling can also be an opportunity for personal growth and development.
Choosing a career can be a difficult process for many people. Two kinds of information may help you in this decision: First, self-assessment inventories explore your values, interests, abilities and needs, and their relationships to specific career areas. A counselor will help you to better know yourself and to select your occupational and educational goals. Second, the Career Center can provide accurate and up-to-date information about various careers, job markets, and education or training requirements.
The TCC Career Center can assist you in making wise career and education decisions. Extensive resources available include a variety of computer programs which provide up-to-date information on careers and schools in Washington State, and programs that assist in creating personalized career goals. Also located in the Career Center are files on hundreds of occupations, a career-job search library, college catalogs and transfer guides, video materials and personal assistance. All resources are free. Visit the Career Center in Bldg. 7 or call 253.566.5191.
The Counseling Department teaches a class in Human Development at TCC. You may find more information about these classes by consulting the TCC catalog or current class schedule. Workshops and support groups are organized on a quarterly basis to address interests and concerns of students.
Services for individuals with physical, psychological or learning disabilities are available through the Accommodations Coordinator, who is located in the Counseling Center in Building 7 at TCC. The goal is to provide individualized planning for overcoming any barriers to college success.
If you are an unemployed, low-income individual and interested in attending courses at TCC, you may qualify for a tuition waiver through the SPRUCE program. For more information or to apply to the program, call the Educational Opportunity Resource Center (EOC) at 253.572.5960.
Counselors can help you set and achieve your educational goals. You may learn the types of classes available for a certain major and discuss what abilities are required. We are concerned about any difficulties you may have related to your educational goals. We can also work with you to reduce test anxiety and to improve study habits.
