Tacoma Community College Archive

Discover your history at TCC…

To support the College mission of creating meaningful and relevant learning, inspiring greater equity, and celebrating success in our lives and communities, the TCC Archive collects and preserves documentation of the College’s origins and development, it's teaching and learning, the institutional culture, and TCC's community context.

The Collections- What is in the Archive?
The archive holds administrative records such as board meeting minutes and course catalogues, as well as collections put together by departments or people. These collections include almost every issue of the Challenge, extensive photograph collections and, personal papers from faculty. In addition the archive holds oral histories of past faculty and staff, scrapbooks, student work, and sports memorabilia.

How to Search or Find Items in the Archive:

Archives are like ice bergs, there is a lot of material that is not visible at first glance. Not everything in an archive is available digitally, so you will often need to come in person to see an item.

Right now the archive is transitioning to software that will let you browse a list of the different documents and collections we have. Until this is fully available, please call or email me! Odette Allen, TCC Archivist. Email: oallen@tacomacc.edu or call 253.460.3990.

Online Resources For Students:
College Catalogs 1965-present (original print copies available in the Archive)

If you are interested in using the archive for your course, send me a copy of your syllabus and I will tell you how the archive can provide materials or help develop assignments.

Donations and Transfers:

Do you have materials you think might benefit the archive? We are interested in reviewing any and all materials that pertain to the history of the school. The archive cannot accept everything that comes our way, but I am delighted by the chance to look.

Not sure if your materials are archive appropriate? It's my job to find out! Feel free to give me a call about anything you think might be relevant to documenting TCC's history. I am happy to answer your documentation questions.

Some common items we collect include: Photographs: digital and film, course materials, club materials showing club activities (meeting minutes, promotional artwork, event posters etc.), oral histories and student publications.

You can have a look at our Abbriviated Collection Policy here.
