Wireless

Students, faculty, staff and guests can connect to TCC’s wireless network for free.

  • The library and media services area offers a wireless network, allowing laptop computers to connect to the Internet
  • If you own an older laptop with a PC card slot, you may need a wireless LAN card to connect to the Internet
  • The library has ten wireless LAN cards available for student checkout
  • The wireless hub located in the library uses standard 802.11b Ethernet Digital Sequenced Spread Sprectrum (DSSS)

The College’s other hot spots are located inthe Opgaard Student Center, Building 11; the Computer Center, Building 17; the Classroom/Administration Building, Building 27; and the Information Technology Building, Building 28. Large posters are positioned at each hot spot, informing people that they are in a wireless Internet zone.

Personal Laptops

  • You are free to use your own laptop in the library with or without Internet access
  • Your computer will find the wireless signal and guide you through the connection process (Most new laptops have Wi-Fi built in. For older computers, adding a Wi-Fi card is simple and inexpensive--cards are available for as little as $50)
  • Student carrels in the library with access to electrical outlets are designated for laptop users
  • Please DO NOT plug your laptop into any outlet that will cause your cable to cross aisleways or otherwise impede traffic
  • Never leave your laptop unattended in the library

Library Laptops

  • The library has fourteen laptop computers that may be checked out for use within the library
  • Each computer is loaded with Internet Explorer for Internet access and Microsoft Office for document production
