Computers

Computers are available for research, document production, and other college-related activity. Access the library's catalog and other computerized resources; create and edit documents in Microsoft Office; scan photos and documents and create multimedia presentations.

Research & Production Workstations

Computers are located in the main collection and reference areas. Resources available from these computers include:

  • iPac - the Library's public access catalog.
  • Periodical databases (Academic Search Premier (Ebsco), ProQuest, EthnicNewswatch, etc.)-access to magazine, journal and newspaper article citations and to the full text of many of the articles.
  • Internet Access - all of the public access workstation have Web access using Internet Explorer. Students can browse the Web and view sources using Western, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean and Cyrillic fonts. Library users must abide by the following guidelines:

TCC Acceptable Use of Information Systems and Services: Overview

  • State owned TCC computers, networks and related systems and services are intended for use by students, staff, faculty, and community users of the library to meet the educational mission and goals of the college.
  • The college may ask students, staff, faculty, and community users to limit or to discontinue uses that interfere with or do not contribute to the mission and goals of the college.  Games and Internet-based entertainment applications (music, video, or other) are not appropriate uses of college systems unless assigned for TCC courses.
  • See also—TCC Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities

Workstations are to be used primarily for library research, assignment production, and other college business such as accessing online classrooms or registering for classes.  Personal use of email and the web are permitted if brief in duration and if such use does not interfere with other students' abilities to complete college business. Users must log in to computers with their student email name and password. Non students will need to obtain a guest login at the Circulation desk. Computers may be used for two hours and they may be reserved ahead of time at any Pharos station.

Laptop computers

The library has a number of laptops that can be checked out for up to two hours at a time and can connect to the internet through the library's wireless system. Ask at the circulation desk to check out a laptop or reserve one within the current week.

Printing

  • You may print from each of the applications that you can access from computers in the main library. Pages are printed to two Pharos workstations: one near the circulation desk and the other in the media services area.
  • The cost of printing is 10 cents per page (or 15 cents for double-sided prints). You will be asked to enter your student email login at the computer you are using. When you have finished, go to a Pharos workstation and logon using your login and password. The per page fee will be deducted from your account.
  • Color prints are 45 cents per page. Go to the Circulation Desk to pick up color prints.
  • If your account is empty you may reload it by adding as much or as little as you like at the Pharos station in the media services area.
  • When using Internet Explorer, you may preview what you are sending to the printer with Print Preview. To preview your print selection select Print Preview from the File menu (Alt, F, V). You may also print only selected pages by entering the page numbers in the Print Range section of the Print dialog.
  • You may print from iPac, but it in most cases it will be faster and cheaper for you to write down the call number (for example, HF121.5 2006) on a slip of paper.
  • Librarians will be happy to print copies of library help documents at no charge.
