Homestay with an American Family

Larson famHomestay is an exciting and unique way to learn about American culture. Our Homestay placements are quarterly commitments (3 months).

There are 2 Homestay options at TCC (through August 31, 2015):

  • Complete Homestay
    $600 per month
    3 meals per day, of which the host prepares dinner and the student prepares breakfast and lunch.
  • Bed and Breakfast Homestay
    $475 per month
    The host provides food for breakfast, and the student prepares it. For all other meals, the student buys and prepares the food.

Please note that starting Spring 2015, new students from Fujian Province will have to pay a non-refundable homestay fee for the full quarter within 3 days of arrival.

Starting September 1, 2015 we will have the following options:

  • Full Homestay
    $625 per month
    3 meals per day, of which the host prepares dinner and the student prepares breakfast and lunch.
  • Shared Homestay
    $475 per month
    The host provides a room for the student. The student is responsible for their own food but can use the kitchen in the homestay to store and prepare meals.

Steps to Apply for Homestay

  1. Fill out homestay application.
  2. Fill out the underage form if you are under 18.
  3. Contact the Housing Department after you receive your visa.
  4. Pay the $250 Homestay Placement fee after you receive your visa (non-refundable). *
  5. Send your flight information to the Housing Department.

*In order to guarantee a place in homestay, complete homestay applications (including visa confirmation) for Summer quarter 2015 must be received no later than May 15, 2015.
For applications received after the due date, the homestay placement fee will be $300.


There are apartments on walking distance from TCC and students can contact local aparments directly. The leases for apartments are for a minimum of 6 months. TCC does not place students in apartments. Below is a list of apartments at walking distance from TCC where international students can apply without needing a cosigner:

Rent a room/house

Some people in the community rent out rooms to international students. This is not through our Homestay Program. Usually it is renting a room only and meals are not included. Leases and fees vary per landlord.

Airport Pick-Up

A TCC representative is available on the scheduled arrival days to meet students upon their arrival at Seattle/Tacoma International Airport (airport code: SEA). 

Students must send flight information for Summer quarter 2015 to the Housing Coordinator no later than June 1, 2015.

Homestay move-in days & airport pick-up days:

Winter 2016: December 19-21, 2015
Spring 2016: March 19-21
Summer 2015: June 13 & 14
Fall 2015: September 5-8

  • New homestay students: No additional airport pick-up fee
  • New students not in homestay/relatives: There is a $75 fee per person for airport pick-up only

The $75 fee and a Tacoma address will need to be paid before arrival. TCC has the right to decline transportation if no address is provided or if we have not been notified of someone's arrival.


Are you arriving early? Will your mom or dad come with you? Will friends or family visit you while you are studying at TCC? Extended Stay - Tacoma South is conveniently located; near the Tacoma Mall, restaurants and a bus stop that goes straight to TCC. Make sure to ask for the TCC discount if you book a room here.
