TCC's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program provides a strong basis in written and spoken English. We have a wide variety of classes designed not only to improve students' English ability, but also to prepare them for American classroom culture.
The EAP Program admits students without a TOEFL score; students without a score take an EAP placement test during orientation.
If you already have a score on the TOEFL or a similar test, please include it as part of your application. Please have those official scores sent to TCC. Students with high scores will be able to skip certain testing during orientation.
Students with the following scores will NOT be required to take any placement test during orientation and may begin college-level classes as soon as they arrive at TCC!
The EAP Program provides six levels of instruction, from beginning through advanced. Classes are offered in:
Advanced EAP classes earn college-level credit, which you can apply directly to your associate's degree. Students can also take certain other college classes while completing EAP classes, including:
All instructors have at least a master's degree in teaching English as a Second Language and considerable experience teaching EAP at the college level.
Tutors provide additional assistance to EAP students. Along with our language labs and Writing Center, the tutors are part of an extensive student support network available free of charge to all TCC students.
Students who successfully complete the EAP Program are guaranteed admission to the college. The EAP program is an integral part of the college, not a separate agency. EAP students are issued an I-20 by TCC and enjoy full access to all college facilities, programs, services and activities.
