Pat Borgen, from the Career Center, came for the first time. Although there were numerous topics to talk about with respect to the 11 September attacks on the World Trade Center, it seemed more appropriate, with just the two of us present, to get acquainted. So we did—making personal connections is in itself, of course, an action for nonviolence.

We will meet again next month, this time on a Tuesday [in case Wednesday (a Mariners’ game Wednesday, at that) was an unfortunate choice]—13 November—again at 3:30 p.m., again in Bldg. 22-13. At that time, we may wish to focus on one or more of the following:

• Responses to the attacks
• Our responses to the responses
• What we’ve done in our classes in response to the attacks
• How students seem to be feeling/responding
• Role of the media
• Basis of
  • Peace
  • Security

Differences between peace and security

• What the flags mean
• How our lives have/haven’t changed since the attacks
• Nature of the war in which the U.S. is now engaged
• Sacrifices we are willing to make for
  • Peace
  • Security
  • War
• What we can do to help bring about justice/lasting peace
