Get Oriented

TCC's new student orientation (NSO) group session for new and readmitting students lets you connect
with other students as we demonstrate our online registration feature and discuss what it takes to get
started at TCC. There will also be an opportunity to tour campus.

Important

New students must attend a NSO or TAN to get classes. Plan for at least two hours for your NSO (for advising only) and four hours for a TAN (tour, assessment and new student orientation).

What to bring

  • Assessment scores (for NSO)
  • Class options
  • Unofficial copy of your transcript (if you're transferring in from another college)
  • Your calendar
(you can schedule a follow-up appointment for education planning, if you wish)
  • Your questions

New Students
All new students (except those who have earned a college degree or attended another college for more than one year) must attend a New Student Orientation and Assessment session or a TAN (Tour, Assessment and New Student Orientation). Reserve your seat by signing up online at new student orientation or call 253.566.6091.

Returning Students
Returning students who have not attended TCC for one year or longer, are advised to attend an on-campus orientation or complete the online orientation if an on-campus session does not work for you. Go to new student orientation or call 253.566.6091.

Transfer-in and Distance-Learning Students: Online Orientation
Students planning to enroll in online courses only, or those who have earned a college degree or attended another college for more than one year, may complete the Online Orientation. Online orientation is also open to returning TCC students who have been gone for less than one year. After you complete online orientation, email the advisor at for online advising and registration information. Or, feel free to stop by the Counseling and Advising Center in Bldg. 7.

TAN

Sign up for a TAN or a New Student Orientation as soon as possible for best course selection!

TAN (Tour, Assessment and New Student Orientation) includes a chance to take (or retake) your assessment test, learn about ways to pay for college, tour the campus and attend your new student orientation. This option is highly recommended for students with any concerns about starting college or for those who wish to take care of their enrollment steps all on one day. Students who have already taken the ACCUPLACER placement test and are satisfied with their scores will want to select a regular New Student Orientation (NSO) instead. If you sign up for a TAN, plan to attend for the entire time (4 hours). We recommend students pay for Assessment (online or in Bldg.14) in advance of showing up for TAN. On the day of your TAN, bring your receipt of payment or online payment code and picture ID. Sign up for an NSO or TAN.

You're almost there ... what happens next?
