Now What???

keep calm and fafsa on imageMy FAFSA is submitted ... now what???

Allow 3-5 business days for your FAFSA to be processed.
Colleges get results a little slower - possibly a week after you receive them.

FAFSA Steps

  • Check your email
(the one used for FAFSA submission) as this is where your results will be sent.
  • Review the Student Aid Report (SAR)
The SAR is a summary of your FAFSA info that is emailed from the Dept. of Education. Make sure there are no errors listed. If there are, log back in to your FAFSA, correct them, and resubmit.
  • Mark your calendar to make final updates
If you selected Will File and 'guestimated' your earnings (recommended), log back in to your FAFSA and make final updates using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when your taxes are finalisted.

College Paperwork Steps

  • Check for financial aid deadlines
at the colleges you are most interest in. Be sure to have everything listed below in by their deadline to ensure your aid is available when you start classes.
  • Any additional forms required?
Check with all the schools you listed on your FAFSA. Be sure to complete each document. At TCC it's a Financial Aid Data Sheet.
  • Selected for verification this year?
Roughly one in three applicants for financial aid nationwide are selected. Check your Financial Aid portal or your SAR to see if you were selected and what's required. Contact your college's Financial Aid office with questions or to submit paperwork.
  • Check your status at your college's Financial Aid Portal
for missing information or documents. Respond to any requests for information ASAP!

Don't wait! Complete all FAFSA and college paperwork steps before the deadline!
