Apply for financial aid

Financial aid is a PROCESS – not a step – of deadlines and paperwork. Stay on track. If you want a chance at the FREE government money and low-interest rate loans, you must do the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

Here’s what TCC needs from you to begin the process:

Submit your FAFSA

The FAFSA application opens January 1 every year. The sooner you submit your FAFSA, the better choices you will have for types of money. You do not need finalized tax information to submit your FAFSA, and you don’t want to wait, either!

  • SAVE time! Create a PIN (4-digit number) for yourself (and a parent if needed) so you can electronically sign your FAFSA. Visit
  • GO to The FAFSA is a free form. Do not pay if any site tries to charge you money!
  • CHECK email one week after submitting the FAFSA. If something is missing, they will only contact you by email.

  • SELECT the correct form for the school year you are planning to begin.
  • ADD TCC and any other school you could be thinking about attending.
  • USE earnings estimates to complete the form and save your place in line.
You can go into the FAFSA later and correct your financial information after you file your taxes.

Complete your FAFSA

  • LOOK for your Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail/email. It will arrive within two weeks of completing the FAFSA. Read it carefully and be sure the info is correct. If you do not receive your SAR, call the Dept. of Education at 1.800.4.FEDAID to check your status.
  • RESPOND quickly to any requests for information. Your chance to get the best money possible depends on how promptly you meet requests.
  • COMPLETE the TCC Financial Aid Data Sheet online.

  • DON’T WAIT to register for classes until you hear whether you received financial aid.
  • SIGN UP for your New Student Orientation (step 6) as soon as you can.
  • CONTROL YOUR FUTURE by NOT waiting for the Financial Aid office to contact you about missing information. It could be too late for you to gather the info if you do.
