Who is Eligible for Admission to TCC?

• You!
• High School graduates
• GED earned
• At least 18 years old
• Applicants under 18 years of age, or who have not graduated from high school may be able to enter TCC through a variety of program options, including: Basic Education for Adults, High School 21+, Integrated Basic Education & Skills Training (I-BEST), Running Start or Fresh Start programs.

Other applicants 16-18 must obtain a written release from the principal of the high school they last attended; admission of under-age students will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

*We are not able to accept students who reside in the State of Maryland.

Step 1: Apply/Reapply

Complete the Admissions Application if you haven't already done so.

  • Online. Fill out the application.
  • In-person. Visit the Enrollment Services counter, Bldg. 7. Click here to print our paper application.
  • By mail. Call 253.566.5001 to request an application.
    Send to Tacoma Community College, Enrollment Services,
    6501 S. 19th St., Tacoma, WA 98466.

Readmitting Students

  • If you've been gone for less than one year, call 253.566.5325 to update your application. Exceptions: Nonresident students, Running Start, Fresh Start and ABE students must reapply online or in person.
  • If you have been gone for over a year, fill out a new application.

Transfer Students (from another college)

Special Admissions Students

You are a Special Admissions Student if you fall into one of the following categories:

  • Online Only
  • Continuing Education
  • Staff
  • State Employee
  • Senior Citizen

TIP: Apply at least 8 weeks prior to the start of the quarter. This improves your chances of getting into the classes you want and improves your opportunities for financial aid.

After you've applied and have been accepted, check your personal email for a welcome message from TCC! In that welcome email, you'll receive an assigned TCC Student ID Number and directions to activate it.

Start to check your new TCC email regularly -- it's how the college will officially communicate with you! Access your new TCC email through your myTCC portal.

You must set up your myTCC portal in order to complete the financial aid process!

Online Only
Visit the eLearning web page for information regarding your course and classroom.

Continuing Education

You are not required to complete an admissions application for non-credit Continuing Education classes. Visit to browse class offerings, register, and pay online with a credit/debit card.  Or call the Continuing Education department at 253.460.2424 to speak with a customer service specialist.


  • Register on the 1st day of the quarter
  • Maximum of 2 classes/10 credits allowed per quarter
  • No waiver required

State Employees

  • Register on the 6th day of the quarter
  • Space available basis only
  • Maximum of 2 classes/10 credits allowed per quarter
  • Fill out the State Employee Space Available Tuition Waiver form and submit it to Enrollment Services, Building 7.

Senior Citizens (60 years or older)

SPRUCE (SPace available to Respond to the Unemployed through College Education)
