How do I apply?

STEP 1: Take the ACCUPLACER assessment test

Go to the Fresh Start office in Bldg. 8, Room 9. A Fresh Start representative will provide a fee waiver to take the Accuplacer assessment test.

• The 1.5-2 hour test will include basic English and math questions, and will determine which classes you will take first. Students need to place at least at the English 85 for admittance into the program.
• You do not need an appointment to take the TCC assessment test. Call 253.566.5158 to confirm dates and times for testing. You will need your photo ID to confirm your identity.

STEP 2: Sign up for an information session

After receiving your test results, go back to Bldg. 8 and ask to sign up for the next information session. Attending the 45-minute sessions is mandatory.

STEP 3: Write your essays

At the information session, you will be given 3 essay questions to respond to, and you will have 1 week to submit your paper to the Fresh Start office in Bldg. 8. The Fresh Start staff will use these essays to determine each applicants suitability to the program, and some applicants may not be accepted.

STEP 4: Schedule an appointment with an Educational Planner

Students will be called and informed of their acceptance to the program, and scheduled for a meeting with an educational planner. Your intake interview will last about 15 minutes. Your educational planner will go over your enrollment packet and review your transcripts and determine how long it will take for you to complete the program.

STEP 5: Attend the Fresh Start orientation

This mandatory orientation takes place the week before classes start. You will be notified of the time, date, and location, and will be expected to attend.

Orientation will last about 4 hours. You will meet faculty and staff, learn your way around campus, and understand program expectations. This is a great time to ask any questions you might have. Be prepared to take notes!
