Waitlist Information

How does the waitlist process work?

  1. Once a class becomes full, a wait list is automatically opened for classes which have approved wait lists.  NOTE: not all classes have waitlists.  As students attempt to register, whether in person or via the Web, they are offered the opportunity to be placed on the waitlist if the class is full.  Students are placed on the waitlist in chronological (first come, first served) order and can be on a total of two wait lists at a time.
  2. Once students are added to a waitlist, it is their responsibility to track the waitlist status.  Students can check the web to see if their position on the waitlist changes and take themselves off of waitlists for classes that they no longer want.
  3. Once a class has an active wait list, all regular registration activity for that class stops.  As other students drop these classes, waitlisted students are registered into available class openings from the wait list in chronological order.
  4. Students have two business days following registration into a class from the waitlist to make payment.  Students are emailed a courtesy notice from the Enrollment Services Office to their TCC email address, but it is the student’s responsibility to monitor their status and pay any additional fees.  Students are also responsible for making sure their schedule is accurate by dropping any unwanted classes.  Failure to do so may result in a failing grade being posted to their transcript and possible additional tuition and fees.
  5. Waitlists are active until the day before classes begin, e.g., Friday when classes begin on Monday.  Students who are still on the waitlist are encouraged to attend the first class session.  Instructors will use the waitlists to overload students into full classes after the quarter begins if openings occur.  NOTE: Attending the first class session will not guarantee admittance into the class.  If the student is granted an overload, he/she must bring the signed overload slip to the Registration Office for processing.  Failure to register will result in no credit given for the class.

NOTE TO FACULTY: If you are allowing students into a class that has a waitlist, the student must bring a signed overload form to Registration even if the enrollment drops below the capacity.  Once an active waitlist has been created, all regular registration for that class ends and the student must be registered manually at the Enrollment Services Office.
