Description:

College Archives Project - Office Worker

Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a new position with specific responsibilities related to the creation of the College Archives.  Approaching its fiftieth anniversary in 2015, the College recognizes the need to establish a repository to collect and conserve the materials which represent the institutional memory and the unique information resources of the College.  By chronicling the College’s evolution and providing access to materials of lasting value, the project will provide evidence of transactions and decisions key to the College’s development, materials which define and enhance the image of the college, and materials and memorabilia which support interaction with alumni, donors and community members.

The College Archives will collect, process, promote and provide access to archival material from a variety sources. We anticipate creating a digital repository for selected materials and a website to make the collection publicly accessible.

Work study students will work under the direction of a project archivist, based in the Library, and will be involved in conducting a basic inventory of archived materials;  organizing and indexing documents and photos that chronicle the college’s history; scanning and digitizing selected materials; and other duties as assigned. Training will be provided.

Qualifications - knowledge, skills and abilities required for this job:

* Minimum

Good communication skills. Attention to detail. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Ability and willingness to lift up to 25 lbs., push loaded book carts, and work with materials that may be dusty.

* Preferred

Familiarity with indexing and database applications
Interest in history
Experience working with scanners and with photo editing software such as Photoshop
