Description:

The Peer Advocate position will serve as a mentor and liaison between TRIO Student Support Services Program, program participants, and the campus community.  The position requires strengths in interpersonal skills such as listening, communications, and problem solving.  Applicants should be responsible and able to work independently.  The applicant should be organized and interested in supporting all TCC students in reaching their academic goals.  This position will be required to act as a first contact for students, staff and the general public and may be required to provide front office coverage.  This position will serve as administrative support for the entire program which requires the ability to multitask.

Under direct supervision:

  • Provide basic information and assistance to other students.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other campus services.
  • Assist with forms and compiling data.
  • Assist in using resource materials.
  • Assist generating ideas for project participants’ social, cultural, and educational events and activities.
  • Willingness to act as a role model to other students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have at least one full quarter of experience as a TCC student.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Experience working in a professional office setting or equivalent.
  • Experience working effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse population.
  • Knowledge of community college and community resources.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills: Word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing desirable.
  • Willingness to commit to working assigned hours.
