On-going duties of CAL Lab, Reading & Study Skills Center, and Language Center Teaching Assistants are to:

  • Monitor lab activity and assist students, checking in and out Reading Lab booklets with proper student ID.
  • Ensure that lab policies and procedures are respected by all participants.
  • Learn lab courseware, hardware, and routinely practice class assignments; admin/management systems to assist instructors and students.
  • Clean and maintain all lab equipment as requested by the Program Director or SLC Program Specialists.
  • Keep the lab learning environment organized and peaceful.
  • Assist other staff as needed.
  • Open and close lab as needed, implementing appropriate procedures and routines such as cleaning and organizing.

In addition to these duties, Teaching Assistants will:

  • Participate in cross training activities in order to learn specific tasks and procedures for each SLC location.
  • Arrive on time, be ready to work, and stay at work site.
  • Demonstrate mature interpersonal skills: Be patient and courteous to students, especially first time users, and help them feel comfortable.
  • Be self-motivated; observe daily work priorities --take the initiative!

Minimum Qualifications:

Reading 95, English 95, and Math 86 TCC Assessment & Placement Test course levels or higher.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Computer and computer based learning familiarity.

Self motivation, reliability, and a good work ethic.

Flexible availability/work schedule.
