Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for financial aid at TCC you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or eligible non-citizen
  • Be admitted to TCC as a regular student seeking an eligible TCC college degree or certificate
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Provide a valid Social Security Number
  • Not be in default on a student loan or owe a repayment on a grant
  • Be registered with the Selective Service (if required)
  • Be making satisfactory academic progress as defined by the TCC satisfactory academic progress requirements (this includes having a 2.0 cumulative grade point average after any 6 quarters of attendance)
  • If you are advised into Adult Basic Education classes, you will not be eligible to receive financial aid until you have successfully completed that coursework

Financial Aid is not available for High School Completion, GED, Running Start, Fresh Start or Continuing Education classes.

Tacoma Community College (TCC) encourages scholarship applications from qualified students regardless of color, race, religion, national origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or marital status.

You must attend all classes that your financial aid is based on. There are serious consequences if you do not attend. Attendance for online classes means participation in assignments/activities, not simply logging in.

If you are thinking about withdrawing from one or all of your classes, speak with someone in the TCC financial aid office first! We want to help you avoid problems.
