TCC is Committed to Our DACA Dreamers

Dear TCC Students, Staff and Faculty,

For more than 50 years, we have celebrated and welcomed students from all backgrounds. TCC was founded upon the belief that we exist to openly serve all members of the community who seek a fuller life through education. Our community-driven mission has created a welcoming, inclusive environment, and we have not wavered from this commitment.

Today’s news regarding President Trump’s announcement to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or the DACA program, has left us profoundly disappointed and saddened. The administration is giving Congress a six-month window to pass legislation that would address the status of 800,000 immigrants, or “Dreamers” as they are called.

Based on what we understand at this time, DACA students are not affected for fall quarter. We don’t know what changes will happen with the DACA program in the next six months, but this is what we know: It is a gift and privilege to welcome DACA students into our college community. We will continue to serve  DACA students with respect and dignity, and provide open access to education and training. This is the heart of what we do, to support all students, through hard work, resilience and drive, to accomplish their dreams.

Attached is the letter that the State Board has signed, along with the presidents of Washington state’s four-year universities. Across our state, the message we share is united: We are proud of our DACA students, and we stand by them.
