Hosts

Hello and thank you for your interest in hosting international students with Tacoma Community College (TCC)!

Living with an international student is a wonderful experience! It is a great chance to learn about other ways of life and to view the U.S. from the perspective of someone from another culture. It is like traveling without ever leaving home!

Hosts pay an important role in the lives of students new to the U.S. Hosts act as ambassadors in showing students what American family life is like and have great influence on what opinions international students form about the U.S. Hosts may be called upon to offer opinions on many issues related to daily life in the U.S. Most importantly, however, they provide a safe, warm, caring home atmosphere that enables the students to relax into a new culture and focus on gaining an education. Hosts play a grandparent role to their students – involved, there for advice, caring – but are not meant to act as parents.

Our hosts are a reflection of the people who live in the U.S. Our hosts can be single people, couples (married or not) with or without children, of all ages and from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds. If you are interested in hosting, please refer to the host application process on this webpage. We look forward to being in contact with you!
