Written Communications

Written Communications Courses

The Written Communications sequence, which includes English 101, 102 and 103, is designed to help you step up to the writing demands of other disciplines and programs at TCC. If you plan to transfer, these classes help prepare you for the writing requirments of 4-year schools. Transfer students at TCC are required to take English 101 and either 102 or 103. English 101 focuses on general writing skills. English 102 focuses on argument and persuasion. English 103 focuses on the evaluation of fiction and non-fiction works.

Critical Reading and Research Skills

Critical reading skills play an important role in English 101, 102 and 103. You will be exposed to a variety of academic writing, and you'll learn methods for finding, integrating and documenting information sources in your own writing. You’ll learn to write papers in both the MLA and the APA styles.

Theme-Based Sections of English 101, 102 and 103

At TCC, you can develop your writing skills in the area of study that interests you most. We offer a number of theme-based sections of English 101, 102 and 103 each quarter. These sections focus on themes and readings from other academic areas. Check the quarterly Class Schedule for descriptions of these classes in the “Note” section of each class description.
