AAS Degree - Generic Plan

The Associate Degree Nursing Program prepares the student for a career as a Registered Nurse. Upon satisfactory completion of the curriculum, the student is awarded an Associate in Applied Sciences degree and is eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nursing.

This program is approved by the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, Georgia 30326).

Course sequencing, prerequisites, and core requirements require students to attend classes over at least a 3-year period to attain an Associate Degree in nursing. The nursing program has 6 levels. The specific program a student is in determines how many quarters it will take for the student to complete all 6 levels.

Options for Entry

  • Full-time RN Generic
This option is for students who do not have a nursing degree or background. The nursing courses in the generic program are taught in a 6-quarter sequence over a 2-year period, excluding summers. The student in this option will complete theory and clinical course each quarter. This is a good option for those students who work less than 20 hours per week. Entry into the generic program occurs in Fall, Winter & Spring quarters.
  • Part time RN Generic
This option is for students who do not have a nursing degree or background. This option is for those students who will be more successful attending school half-time. This option typically requires a 2 day per week commitment to class or clinical. These days and times are variable, depending on course or clinical requirements. Students attend theory classes one quarter, followed by the clinical portion the next quarter. Due to this split, students attend classes during summer quarter in addition to the usual academic year (fall-spring).  Entry to the part-time option occurs only once a year with the spring quarter enrollment.
