FAQ

Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes are designed for adults who are already proficient in the English language, not enrolled in high school, and who wish to improve basic skills in reading, writing, and/or mathematics.

How do I enroll?

First, come to the ABE office, located in Bldg. 7, and fill out an admission form and receive your TCC student number. Please bring a valid picture ID.

Next, attend an information session. Information sessions are scheduled 1-2 times per quarter and take approximately 2 hours. Each information session is limited to 30 participants, so arrive early. A sign-in sheet will be available 30 minutes prior to the session and participants will be served on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants who arrive late will be placed on a waiting list and contacted about the next session. During the information session you will complete a writing sample. Please bring a pen or pencil.

After the information session, you will be given an appointment for placement and registration into available classes. This appointment will take approximately 3 hours. At the appointment, you will take the CASAS assessment. The results of this assessment and the writing sample are used to place you into the correct level of classes. After the assessments, you will be registered for classes if space is available. If space is not available, you will be placed on a waiting list.
