Homestay with an American Family

Larson famHomestay is an exciting and unique way to learn about American culture. Our homestay placements are quarterly commitments (3 months).

There are 2 Homestay options at TCC:

  • Complete Homestay
    $625 per month
    3 meals per day, of which the host prepares dinner and the student prepares breakfast and lunch.
  • Shared Homestay
    $475 per month
    The host provides a room for the student. The student is responsible for their own food, but can use the kitchen in the homestay to store and prepare meals.

Please note that effective Spring 2015, new students from Fujian Province, China will have to pay a non-refundable homestay fee for the full quarter within 3 days of arrival.

Steps to Apply for Homestay

We are currently accepting Spring 2018 Homestay Applications (Jan 17, 2018):

  1. Fill out the online homestay application (Deadline for Spring 2018: Feb 15, 2018, 5pm).
  2. Send the underage form to if you are under 18.
  3. Notify TCC about your visa confirmation & request TCC Airport Pick Up through the form (Deadline: Feb 20, 2018, 5pm).
  4. $250 non-refundable homestay program fee will be charged on your student account after you submit your VISA confirmation.
  5. Finally, we will find your host family and arrange your airport pick up.

These are firm deadlines and we appreciate your planning ahead and completing the steps to be part of the TCC Homestay Program.

If you are experiencing any delay of visa applications or booking flights, please make sure to communicate with TCC International Housing ( before the deadlines.


There are apartments on walking distance from TCC and students can contact local aparments directly. The leases for apartments are for a minimum of 6 months. TCC does not place students in apartments. Below is a list of apartments at walking distance from TCC where international students can apply without needing a cosigner:

Rent a Room/House

Some people in the community rent out rooms to international students. This is not through our Homestay Program. Usually it is renting a room only and meals are not included. Leases and fees vary per landlord. Some of the information is on the bulletin board in the TCC Building #11.

Airport Pick-Up

The deadline to request TCC Airport Pick Up Service for Spring 2018, Feb 20, 2018, 5pm. Please notify TCC about your visa confirmation & request TCC Airport Pick Up here.

A TCC representative is available on the scheduled arrival days to meet students upon their arrival at Seattle/Tacoma International Airport (airport code: SEA). 

Homestay move-in days & airport pick-up days:

Spring 2018: Sun & Mon March 25 & 26, 2018 to attend orientation on March 27, 28 & 29, 2018

  • New homestay students: No additional airport pick-up fee
  • New students not in homestay/relatives: There is a $75 fee per person for airport pick-up only

Tacoma address will need to be provided before arrival. $75 is non-refundable after the confirmation of the service. TCC has the right to decline transportation if no address is provided or if we have not been notified of someone's arrival.


Are you arriving early? Will your mom or dad come with you? Will friends or family visit you while you are studying at TCC? Extended Stay - Tacoma South is conveniently located near the Tacoma Mall, restaurants and a bus stop that goes straight to TCC. Make sure to ask for the TCC discount if you book a room there. Other hotels in the Tacoma area that offer a special TCC rate are Best Western Plus Tacoma Dome and Clarion Inn.
