Program Description

TCC’s Networking and Cyber Security program prepares the student for a career in network administration and technical support with a focus on cyber security. The program includes a series of technical core courses that provide hands-on knowledge and skills in systems, data, networking, and security concepts. The program includes a series of non-technical core courses related to business, project, and team communication skills. Advanced course work includes training in PC hardware and operating systems, Windows servers, networking, routing, security, and virtualization. Degrees & Certificates

Networking and Cyber Security program certificates are available as stand-alone certificates or they can be applied to the Associate of Applied Sciences degree.

  • Help Desk: Designed to prepare students to perform fundamental PC support tasks and to hold entry-level jobs as help desk technicians. Students are encouraged to get the A+ certification exam upon certificate completion.
  • Technical Support: Builds on basic PC support and networking skills and experience to develop more advanced networking skills. Students are encouraged to get the Network+ certification exam as part of this certificate. To complete the Technical Support certificate, you must first complete the Help Desk certificate or have equivalent work experience as determined by the program chair.

At this point in student progression towards the AAS degree, students will choose from one of the following certiciate options.

  • Network Support: Designed to prepare the student to perform entry-level network administration tasks on both local and wide area networks. To complete the Network Support certificate, the student must first complete the Help Desk and Technical Support certificates or have equivalent work experience as determined by the program chair.
  • Cyber Security: Designed to prepare students to assess, defend, and remediate security risks for networked environments. The courses in the certificate provide hands-on expertise in using process, technology, and critical thinking skills to solve emerging security issues for business. Successful completion of the certificate prepares the student to be ready to pursue an entry-level position, upgrade a current role in an organization, or further their education. This certificate will be aligned with the requirements of recognized industry certifications (CompTIA Security+, CCNA® Security, and CISSP Associate), and the industry standards of the National Security Agency (NSA), and the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS), as the foundation of the CISSP. To complete the Cyber Security certificate, the student must complete the requirements for the Help Desk and Technical Support certificates; or have equivalent work experience as determined by the program chair.

Networking and Cyber Security AAS Degree: The Associate in Applied Sciences degree includes additional course work in wireless networking, security, business, project management, and general education. Students are also required to complete internships. Students who complete the AAS degree will be prepared for more advanced supervisory positions after obtaining requisite field experience. To complete the Networking and Convergence Technologies Associate of Applied Sciences degree, you must complete the Network Support or Cyber Security certificate. Take MATH& 107 if you need transfer-level math. ENGL& 101 and CMST& 101 are transfer-level classes.

Additional Certificate Options

  • Application Support Specialist: This 49-credit certificate is designed to prepare students to provide application software support. The courses in the certificate provide expertise in using software applicaitons supporting users of the applications. Successful completion prepares the student to be ready to pursue an entry-level position, upgrade a current role in an organization, or further their education.
  • e-HIM: In collaboration the Health Information Management (HIM) program we offer a 43-credit certificate (electronic-Health Information Management). The certificate will complement the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential. It also complements a Networking & Convergence Technologies, providing skills which will allow graduates to become a vital part of any health information management IT team working to develop and/or manage health information electronically. This certificate is also offered as a standalone certificate, which will provide candidates with foundational knowledge that will allow them to enter the healthcare IT field.

If a 4-year degree is your goal, each of our Associate in Applied Science degree programs has several 4-year degree transfer options.

Program Planning

Academic Performance Requirement: All coursework in the program must be completed with grades of 'C' or higher to qualify for any certificates or degrees.

Prerequisites

  • Assessment above or completion of MATH 75
  • Assessment at college-level English or completion of ENGL 95
  • Assessment at college-level Reading or completion of READ 95
  • Completion of CU 100 with a 'C' or higher or instructor permission
