Commencement Ceremony

Congratulations on all you've learned and thank you for all you've contributed to the TCC Community!

Commencement is the ceremony in which you celebrate and share the excitement, and importance, of your academic accomplishments with peers, family, and friends.

Here are the ceremony details!

Spring 2016 Commencement

Saturday June 11, 2016

Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center
1500 Broadway, Tacoma, WA 98402

  • Graduate check-in begins at 9 a.m.
  • In mid-May, graduates will receive a postcard and email requesting them to register to attend Commencement.  Submittal of your degree/certificate application is required to receive the mailing and email. Refer to the student portal (MY TCC) for more details.
  • No tickets are required to attend Commencement. Please invive your family and friends.
  • Graduates who attend Commencement will be presented with a diploma cover. For those not planning to attend Commencement, a diploma cover may be purchased at the Bookstore.
  • Students must have completed the degree requirements for 2015-2016 school years (Summer 2015 through Spring 2016) in order to walk.
  • The ceremony will be live video streamed.

Cap, Gown, Tassels

  • Graduates are required to wear a cap and gown if you walk in the ceremony.
  • Pre-order your graduation package (cap, tassel, gown).
  • Graduation packages (cap, tassel, gown) will be available for purchase in the TCC Bookstore beginning late May. Cost: $42.99 (plus tax)
  • Purchase honor cord at the TCC Bookstore. The Bookstore will have a list of students eligible to purchase honor and high honor cords by the end of May.
    Cost: Honor - $6.49, High Honor - $11.99
  • Announcements may be purchased at the TCC bookstore.
  • If you are a financial aid recipient and cannot afford the cost of a cap and gown, please come to the Student Life Office (Bldg. 11) in May for assistance.
  • If you are a GED or High School 21+ graduate, you will be able to check out a cap and gown from the ABE Front Desk in Bldg. 7 in May.


  • Graduates can purchase portrait packages provided by Darel Roa Photography. Portrait Package order form will be available in April.
  • Appointments can be made for Cap & Gown portraits prior to the ceremony.
  • Commencement candids will also be captured as you cross the stage.

Steps to Graduation

Graduation is the completion of degree requirements and submittal of the degree application. Degrees may be completed in Summer, Fall, Winter, or Spring quarters. Once your degree has been granted it will be posted to your TCC transcript.

Commencement is a formal ceremony honoring student degree completion. TCC holds a Commencement ceremony once a year in June.

Applying to Graduate

  • Meet with your academic advisor to review degree requirements and complete the degree application or certificate application.
  • Submit completed application to Enrollment Services, Bldg. 7.
  • Degree application deadline for Spring graduates: Thursday, April 28.

Early Commencement

Early Commencement is for students who will complete their degree requirements in the Summer Quarter but wish to participate in Commencement. Students must be within 2 courses (or 10 credits) of graduating and be registered for those classes for summer quarter 2016. Early Commencement students need to submit additional forms to request approval.

  1. The Early Commencement Form will be available on May 4 at the Enrollment Services Front Counter, Bldg. 7.
  2. Attach a copy of your Summer Quarter schedule to the completed Early Commencement Form and your Summer Quarter Degree Application. Submit the forms to the Enrollment Services Office, Bldg. 7, by May 19 .
  3. You will be notified of approval by email.
