Christy Martin, Head Women's Basketball Coach for Tacoma Community CollegeChristy Martin joins Titan Athletics as head coach of the Women’s Basketball team for the 2014-15 season.

Martin comes to TCC from Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, OR, where she spent six years turning one of the worst women’s teams in the NWAC into the most successful women’s basketball program in BMCC history.

In 2012-13, Martin guided the Timberwolves to the NWAACC Tournament for the first time in program history with an 18-10 overall record.  Last season despite being unranked BMCC placed 3rd in the NWAC for their highest placing in school history

Martin has helped 2 players sign Division 1 scholarships in three years.  She is passionate about helping student athletes further their collegiate careers at the 4 year level.

Originally from Spokane, Martin is familiar with Tacoma from high school State 4A Tournaments. Martin was an assistant at Ferris HS in 2002 when they placed 3rd at State. The following season in 2003, she assisted Central Valley High School to a second place finish.

In 2004 Martin took over a struggling Liberty High School program in Spangle Washington, which saw only 2 wins the year prior to her arrival.  In just 3 seasons the Lancers won the Bi-County Championship, Regional Championship and District Championship while making it to state for the first time in 17 years.  In just 3 seasons as a high school head coach Martin compiled a 60-20 record.

Martin has turned her sites towards turning Tacoma Community College into a perennial power.  “TCC athletics are rich in tradition; I am excited and motivated to help bring Titan WBB back to prominence in the NWAC.” “Having the opportunity to work in a bigger pond with a larger array of local talent was a big draw to Tacoma,” said Martin.

Martin believes in developing strong student-athletes who hold themselves to high academic standards and give back to the community.

“My fundamental vision will always be excellence, both in the classroom, the community and during competition.  Finding new and different mechanisms to achieving this is part of the challenge.  The end goal is producing a program that our Titan community will be proud of.”
