Injury plagued Titans fall short in Championship game at the Skagit Valley Tournament

The TCC Men's Basketball lost a heartbreaker 62-59 to host Skagit Valley College on Sunday in the Championship game of the 39th annual Skagit Valley College Turkey tournament.

The Titans won their first round game against NW Indian College 84-82 behind Demetrius Smith's game high 26 points. Guards Jibreel Stevens and Ryo Yamazaki chipped in 15 & 12 points. The Titans led by as many as 15 points before escaping with the 2 point victory. Forward Damani Coley went down with an ankle injury just 8 minutes into the game.

Saturday nights 83-78 win in the semi-final matchup was against Big Bend who the Titans beat in last years NWAACC Final 4. The high octane Vikings were held in check by the Titans shooting only 39% from the field. TCC built an 18 point lead in the 2nd half. The Titans were led by Demetrius Smith's 19. Julian Vaughn added 14 & 9 rebounds, while Jibreel Stevens and Darnell Williams added 14 & 10 points. Guard Ryo Yamazaki went down to a foot injury half way through the first half.

In Sunday's Championship game the Titans fell short against the host Cardinals. Despite holding them to 37.1% field goal shooting & only allowing 62 points. Julian Vaughn, Jibreel Stevens & Demetrius Smith all scored 11 points for the Titans, while Vaughn led with 9 rebounds. Darius Johnson Wilson & Dom Campbell added 8 rebounds each.

Sophomore Forward Julian Vaughn was named to the All Tournament team.

The Titans (2-1) had starting forward Damani Coley & guard Ryo Yamazaki go down to injuries in the first two days and were missing forward Isaac Barsh for most of the Tournament to food poisioning. TCC was already at a disadvantage entering the Tournament without starting guard Josh Lord and post player David Smith due to knee injuries.

The Titans return to action on Saturday December 1st at Everett.
