Tacoma, WA - TCC Baseball traveled to the Eastside of the state taking on Blue Mountain Community College and Walla Walla Community College. The Titans dominated the two games vs Blue Mountain beating the Timberwolves 15-0 and 22-1 and split against Walla Walla 4-1 and 1-9.

The Titans offense exploded against Blue Mountain and would continue all day. In game 1, Brett Nielsen would lead the way, going 4-4 with a double and Connor Cloyd, CJ Hicks and Derik Bontempo would each contribute 2 hits apiece. Cloyd, JJ Pino and Will Shanahan each scored 3 runs each making it easy for starting pitcher Patrick Bernard. Bernard would cruise over 5 innings allowing only 2 hits and 0 runs while striking out 5. Jake Brewer threw 2 shutout innings striking out 3 to preserve the win.

The offense would start a little slower in Game 2 but eventually would close hotter than ever. Up 2-0 going into the 4th inning, the Titans bats came to score 20 runs over the next 4 innings. Freshman infielder Reed Johnson would lead the charge going 3-3 on the day with a grand-slam and 8 RBI's. TCC hitters would walk 16 times and steal 8 bases in the game. Starter Justin Vernia earned his 2nd win of the year in as many starts.

Day 2 of the trip would present a greater challenge in Walla Walla. A match of each teams #1 arms in Game 1 would see Joey Gamache vs Walla Walla's ace Jesse Houser. TCC would strike first in the 3rd inning when a Nielsen single scored Cloyd giving Titans a 1-0 lead. Walla Walla would tie it in the 4th, but a Jon Reece homerun in 5th gave the Titans the lead for good. TCC added some insurance in the 7th on RBI doubles by Hicks and Bontempo. While not having his best stuff, Gamache competed through 6 innings giving up only 1 run to earn the win. Ryota Koiwai would strikeout 2 in the 7th for the save.

With a chance for a weekend sweep East of the mountains, the Titans came out a little flat and had a difficult final game. Down 2-0 going into the bottom of the 5th, the Titans couldn't slow down the Walla Walla bats as the Warriors scored 7 runs off 7 hits pushing their lead to 9-0. TCC would scrap 1 run in the 6th inning but that would be all they could manage as they accumulated only 3 hits in game 2. Titan starter Stephen White struggled at times and would take the loss.

"Minus that last game I thought we have a very good weekend," stated Head Coach Ryan Mummert. "White didn't have his best stuff, but he will be better. And we became impatient at the plate but that's why it's preseason. I'm not worried. We outscored Blue Mountain 37-1 and beat Walla Walla's top arm. Those are positive things to look at going forward."

The Titans(5-1, 0-0) now will take on Shoreline CC on Saturday at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue and then come home for its' home opener vs Skagit Valley CC on Sunday. Both games are doubleheaders starting at 12pm.
