The Tacoma Women’s Volleyball team had a strong showing at the Dorian Harris Volleyball Tournament in Gresham, Oregon last week end placing 3rd in what many would consider a “prelude” to the NWAAC tournament taking place November 15th, 16th and 17th in Gresham Oregon. Each team leading their respective region was in attendance (Whatcom-North, Columbia Basin –East, Mt. Hood – South and Tacoma- West). Tacoma was seated 1st in their respective pool and 3rd overall after Friday’s pool play by beating Lower Columbia (27-30, 30-24, 30-17, 30-27) and Whatcom (21-30,30-25,23-30,31-29,15-13). Tacoma drew Clackamas for the first round of tournament play on Saturday rolling over Clackamas (30-20,30-24, 30-18). The semi-final round consisted of the much anticipated match between Tacoma and Columbia Basin. The match went 5 games with Tacoma losing a lead (12-7) in the fifth game with a game cap at 15. The final scores were (23-30,30-22,30-22,17-30,12-15). Coach Spoja noted “there were 4 crucial mental errors in that fifth game that would have made all the difference. We know where we are at and will take these next few weeks to fine tune our game to be ready for the NWAAC tournament, we are very excited”. In addition to placing 3rd in the Dorian Harris Volleyball Tournament, the Lady Titans placed 2nd in the overall Halloween costume contest. Tacoma with an overall record of (25-5) faces Centralia Community College (away game) Monday October 29th and Green River at home Friday November 2nd.

With a win Friday night against Pierce Community College (33-31, 30-19 and 30-16) the Tacoma Community College Women’s Volleyball team has completed their first round of the NWAAC league play. TCC leads the West conference with a record of 7-0 while their overall record now stands at 18-4. Highlights for the Friday night match were kills Leilani Ramsey (24), Taylor Smith (10), Jalissa Bullock (10) andSarah Gann (10). Digs Hiromi Imazumi (14), Leilani Ramsey (12), Taylor Smith (7). Assists Eki Punimata (55) and (11) team blocks.
TCC is focused on starting their second round of league play which will start with their scheduled match against Centraliaon Wednesday October 17th. Coach Spoja is very pleased that the team has continuously raised the level of play. “We are eager to get into the gym to continuously push forward. Our team is focused and supports each other. This trait has allowed us to have a solid foundation, a great connection and a continuous focus to pursuing our goals. Not only have the team members rose to the occasion but also the fans and the community have joined in on this journey”.
The lady Titans women's volleyball team had their first loss of the season on Tuesday after losing to Bellevue Community College 28-30, 30-32, 25-30. The lady Titans developed a new line-up Monday and had their libero setting after their setter Eki Punamata suffered a minor ankle sprain at Saturdays practice.
The Lady Titans of Tacoma started their season Friday, August 31, 2007, beating Linn Benton Community College in four games. Sophomore Leilani Ramsey had 23 kills and 17 digs, while Sophomore Eki Punimata raked in 36 assists, 10 digs, and 7 kills of her own. Sophomore Jalisa Bullock led the middle hitters with 9 kills and 5 blocks and Sophomore Hiromi Imaizumi led the defenders with 13 digs. The Titans went on to beat Chemeketa Community College in three games that same night. On September 4th the Lady Titans again beat Chemeketa Community College in three games and went on to defeat Skagit Valley College in three games as well starting the season with an amazing 4-0 record.
The lady Titans of Tacoma, coming off one of their best seasons in recent history could not maintain that momentum and lost twice on the opening day of the NWAACC championship tournament in Spokane, WA. TCC lost the first match to Bellevue by the score of one game to three (30-25, 30-25, 28-30, 30-25). The squad then had to come right back that evening and play Linn Benton in a losers bracket game which they lost 0-2 (32-30, 30-23).
The Tacoma women's volleyball team placed three players on this years NWAACC All West Region Team. While head coach Angela Spoja earned coach of the year honors, which she shared with head coach Kyle Densley from Green River Community College. The Titans placed two players on the first team, outside hitter Leilani Ramsey and setter Eki Punimata while defensive specialist Hiromi Imaizumi received a second team selection.

The NWAACC office has announced the opening round pairings for the upcoming volleyball championship tournament to be held at Spokane Falls CC November 16th - November 18th with the lady Titans of Tacoma Community College beginning their quest for the title by facing Bellevue Thursday November 16th at 4:30 p.m. For a look at the entire tournament bracket go to the NWAACC website at www.NWAACC.org.
First year head coach Angela Spoja has revitalized the Lady Titans volleyball program, taking a team that finished 2005 with an overall record of 9-24 and only seven players on the roster to one that finished 14-14 and 10-4 in conference, the 10-4 record was good enough for a second place finish in the Western Division. With only two sophomores on the roster this season coach Spoja has expanded her squad to eleven players by bringing in a very talented freshman class led by outside hitter Leilani Ramsey and setter Eki Punimata.
The TCC women's volleyball team ended the regular season on Wednesday with a victory over Lower Columbia College in Longview. Tacoma won by a score of 28-30, 30-12, 30-18, 30-18 and in the process secured the second seed in the NWAACC playoffs by finishing second in the Western Division with a record of 10-4, four games behind first place Green River and one game ahead of Highline CC. The ladies now set their sites on the tournament which begins Wednesday November 16th at Spokane Falls CC in Spokane, Washington.

The lady Titans took over sole possession of second place in the NWAACC's Western Division Wednesday night with a thrilling five game victory over Pierce college. After losing the first match, at home, TCC settled down and took the next two games. A pesky Pierce team managed to square the match by winning game four but Tacoma turned up the pressure and easily took game five giving them the inside track on the second seed in the conference for the upcoming championship tournament. The final score for the match was 17-30, 30-21, 30-26, 25-30, 15-9. The Titans were once again led by the dynamic duo of Leilani Ramsey and Eki Punimata with Ramsey going for 24 Kills, 16 Digs and 3 Aces as Punimata led all players with 60 Assists. Sophomore Jessica Dodge turned in a great all around performance with 13 Kills and 14 Digs while Hiromi Imaizumi and Jennifer Friesen also had major contributions in the Titan victory. All the team has to do now is win their regular season finally at Lower Columbia on Wednesday November 8th to clinch second place and the number two seed. Game time for that match is set for 7:00 p.m.

The TCC women's volleyball team put up a good fight in their home gym on Monday night but in the end could not get by the number one team in the NWAACC Western Division, Green River CC. The Gators remained undefeated in conference play at 12-0 and 25-9 overall. The final score was 30-28, 30-26 and 30-18 and with loss TCC dropped into a three way tie for second place. Highline and Pierce are the other schools battling for the second playoff spot and with only two games remaining in the regular season things are still up for grabs. A lot will be determined this Wednesday night on Tacoma's home court as cross town rivals TCC and Pierce square off with the winner having the inside track on the Western Division's second seed. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.

With TCC's victory Wednesday night over Gray's Harbor the lady Titans move into a two way tie for second place in the Western Division. TCC beat the Chokers of Gray's Harbor on the road by a score of 30-24, 30-16, 30-18. The victory, combined with Pierce losing to Clark on Wednesday has set up a battle for the second playoff spot in the NWAACC Tournament between TCC and Pierce with only three games remaining. The Titans next opponent will be this Monday Oct. 30 at home against Green River with the match set to begin at 7:00 p.m.

The TCC women's volleyball team got off to a hot start then held off a pesky Clark team 30-23, 30-26, 28-30, 31-29 to win their fourth straight game Friday night. With the win the Titans remain in third place in the NWAACC Western Division with a record of 7-3 / 11-13, one game behind Peirce CC. TCC freshman Leilani Ramsey, coming off an NWAACC Western Region Player of the Week honor, put together another dominant performance to lead the Titans. Leilani led all players in Kills (23) and Digs (22) and was second in Blocks (6) while teamate Jennifer Friesen came up big with 12 Kills and 10 Digs of her own. Other Titan standouts were Eki Punimata with 49 Assists and Hiromi Imaizumi with 16 Digs. The Titans next opponent will beGrays Harbor CC this Tuesday in Aberdeen with the match set to start at 7:00 p.m.

In two crucial matches to wrap up the first half of the season, Leilani was solid on both offense and defense, leading TCC to two victories on the week. She has season averages of 12 kills a match and 10 digs a game. She is a natural leader on and off the court as well as winning an all star award in the crossover tournament at Coos Bay.
The lady Titans continued their push for the playoffs with a decisive victory over Centralia CC on Wednesday night sweeping the Trailblazers by the score of 30-18, 30-16 & 30-19. The raucous home crowd helped propel TCC to their third straight win, moving them into sole possession of third place in the NWAACC's Western Division. The win also brings the teams season record to 6-3 in league play and 10-13 overall, only one game behind second place Pierce. Freshman setter Eki Punimata continued her outstanding play with a 19 assists night, while Ryanne Termini contributed 12 digs and Leilani Ramsey chipped in 7 aces. The Titans look to continue their good play with a pivotal match up against Clark CC this Friday at home starting at 7:00 p.m.

The Titan women won their conference match up over rival Lower Columbia CC with an exciting match in the Tacoma gymnasium 3 games to 1 by the scores of 30-21,24-30,30-22,30-25. The team used the excitement of a raucous home crowd to secure the win and with the victory the Lady Titans move into a three way tie for third place in the NWAACC Western Division. TCC's Jalisa Bullock led all players with 15 Kills while Eki Punimata led all players with 48 assist. The Titans next face Highline community College in Des Moines, WA. this Friday at 7:00 p.m. After that you can see them on Wednesday October 18 at 7:00 p.m. at home as they take on Centralia in another Western Division match up.

Sophomore Ryanne Termini and freshman Leilani Ramsey were named to the Tournament All Team All-Stars at the NWAACC crossover tournament in Coos Bay Oregon. The Titans went 2-2 during the event with loses to Southern Oregon and Treasure Valley while earning victories over Yakima and Shoreline.

The Lady Titans are looking forward as the 2006 volleyball season approaches! Official practice begins August 23rd 2006. The 2006 Schedule features Tournaments in Spokane, and Coos Bay, OR, as well as trips to Yakima and the Tri Cities to play the teams in the East Region. The coaching staff is excited about the new recruits coming in as well as the core of talented, returning players. Returning for the Titans are Jessica Dodge, who was named West Region Defensive Player of the Week in 05, and Ryanne Termini. New to the Titan Roster are Jalisa Bullock of Wilson High School, who just signed an NWAACC Letter of Intent to attend in 06-07, Elaine Wilson, Jennifer Friesen, Hiromi Imaizumi, Rachel Silva, Jessica Meddles, and Malia Phillips.
