Pre-Season started on August 30th with a match against Whatcom Community College. The Titan’s defeated Whatcom in 3 games (25-20, 25-20, and 25-22.) After the Labor Day weekend, they had two matches down in Longview, WA. In the first game against Linn Benton the Titans battled, but came up short and lost in 4 games (20-25, 25-21, 25-17. 28-26). Immediately after that loss, they played Clackamas and defeated them in 3 (25-20, 25-15, and 25-19). The Tacoma Titans played in the Highline Volleyball Tournament September 7th and 8th. The Lady Titans found themselves winning their pool on day one. They accomplished this by defeating Olympic CC (25-15, 18-25, 15-13) and Shoreline CC (25-17, 25-16), but lost to Treasure Valley CC (17-25, 25-15, 15-12). Due to wins and losses and head to head wins, the Tacoma Titan’s won first place in their pool, giving them good placement for the following day of bracket play. On their way to the championship, the Titans defeated Lower Columbia (25-13, 25-17) and Bellevue (25-22, 25-23). In the championship they faced Olympic CC and defeated them to win the Highline Tournament (25-19, 22-25, 15-12). Setter Taylor Brooks and Middle Blocker Brandee Victorino were named 1st Team All-Tournament, while Right Side Molly King was given honorable mention. The next contest was held at Bellevue Community College where they faced Bellevue again. The Titans struggled in serve receives and lost to Bellevue (25-13, 25-19, 25-12). They then battled with Wenatchee CC by winning the first set 25-20 then losing the next two sets 17-25 and 25-17. After losing two sets they put in a great team effort to finish and win the match 25-22 and 15-11. They were led offensively by Anitaka Knight and Ellen Andersen. Coach Rachael Schurman states, “We have walked away from every pre-season game, win or lose, with something to improve upon this season. We look forward to improving on our areas of weakness in practice and continuing to work with our strengths.” The Lady Titans will continue on the road competing in the Spokane Crossover this weekend, September 14th and 15th. The following week they will see their first League match at home against Pierce on September 19th at 7 pm. Come support your Titans as they start their league play at home!
