Coach Howell Named NWAACC Men's Basketball Coach of the Year

Tacoma Titans Head Coach Carl Howell has been voted the 2011-12 NWAACC Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year. Howell led the Titans to 2012 NWAACC title with a 110-98 win over Chemeketa in the championship game held March 6th.

The Titans finished second in the West Region compiling a 26-5 record for the season.

NWAACC Executive Director, Marco Azurdia congratulated the Titans, “Congratulations to Coach Howell, coaches and players for an outstanding season. Their performance at the championship tournament clearly demonstrated a commitment to team defense and unselfish play on the offensive end.”

This was Howell’s 14th season at the helm of the Tacoma program and second NWAACC championship. Tacoma last won the NWAACC title in 2002. Howell’s first tenure as the Titans head coach was from 1993 to 2003. He returned as Tacoma’s head coach in 2008 after being an associate head coach at Eastern Washington.
