4-7-08 Carl Howell Returns to Coach TCC Men’s Basketball  

Carl Howell is resuming leadership of the Tacoma Community College men’s basketball team as head coach while retaining his position as Athletic Director.

Head of the TCC men’s basketball program from 1992-2003, Coach Howell retains the title of TCC’s all-time most winning basketball coach.  While leading the Titans to a 239-82 record, Howell sustained a 74.5 winning percentage over 11 years. In addition the Titans were 138-26

( 84.1%) in Howell’s last five seasons. He coached the Titans to four straight NWAACC (Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges) Western Regional Championships (1999-2002), and led TCC to the NWAACC championship game in 2001 and 2002, winning the  NWAACC Championship in 2002. Howell is only the third coach in NWAACC history to achieve four straight regional titles and have two thirty-win seasons.  Fifteen of Coach Howell’s players from TCC teams have advanced to Division I basketball programs.  In recognition of his outstanding achievements, Howell was once named Coach of the Year by the NWAACC.  He also achieved recognition as Western Region Coach of the Year four times, and served five times as Head Coach of the NWAACC All-Star Game.         

Howell returned to TCC as Athletic Director in 2007 after four seasons as Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Eastern Washington University, where the Eagles advanced to the NCAA tournament in the first year of his leadership. As men’s basketball coach he replaces Arvin Mosley, who resigned on February 26^th to pursue other opportunities. Mosley coached the Titans from 2003-2008, and compiled a record of 46-88 . TCC looks forward to a dynamic and successful men’s basketball program under Howell’s direction, while the athletic department continues to thrive under his leadership as athletic director.  “I’m really excited to again be the men’s basketball coach at TCC,” said Howell.      

Dave Pelkey, Dean of International Student Services and Programs, believes that Howell will provide strong leadership for the men’s basketball program.  “Carl has a demonstrated history as a coach at TCC, and we believe the program is in good hands.  We look forward to having Coach Howell back on the court representing TCC,” said Pelkey. 

TCC SUMMER LEAGUE

The 16^th annual TCC High School Boys Summer League will begin play Wednesday, May 28^th with the regular season concluding Thursday, June 26^th. The league wraps-up with a Championship TournamentJune 30^th – July 2^nd (Monday-Wednesday).  Space is limited to the first 24 teams. The league will be divided into 2 groups of 12 teams; Monday/Wednesday group and Tuesday/Thursday group. The cost of the league is $500 with an 8 game guarantee. Please pay with CASH or 1 CHECK made out to: TCC Foundation/Men’s Basketball.

Please indicate when your team is at team camp so we can make schedule arrangements. We have included two extra days this year in hope of having more flexibility for those of you who are attending team camp

All games will be officiated by members of the Western Washington Basketball Officials Association. 2-26-08 A.C. Mosley Steps down as Men's Basketball Coach

A.C. Mosley has resigned from his position as Head Men's basketball Coach to pursue other opportunities. Coach Mosley had coached the Titans since the 2003-04 season. " We all wish Coach Mosley the best in his future endeavors. From his playing days here to his coaching career he has always been a positive influence with our student-athletes and our community," said Carl Howell, Director of Athletics.
