In the 2nd West Division series of this 2012 season, the Titans took on Green River Community College. With it being Easter Sunday the series took place Friday at TCC’s Minnitti Field and Saturday at Green River’s home field Auburn High School.

In game 1, the Titans jumped ahead early lead. JJ Nazzaro led the game off with a walk and would later score on a Seth Heck double. Heck would also score on a pass ball, giving TCC 2 runs in the first inning. After a bases loaded walk gave Tacoma a 3-0 lead in the 3rd, Green River would cut the lead to 3-2 getting 2 runs of their own in the 4th inning. In the bottom of the 6th inning, TCC’s bats came alive and rallied for 5 runs, capped by Clayton Brown clearing the bases with a 3 RBI double, giving the Titans an 8-2 lead. Tacoma’s hitters totaled 7 hits but drew 10 walks in the game. Stephan Adams had two hits as well as Marcus Hinkle, with 1 being his first career home run. Tacoma’s starting pitcher Tim Dean worked 7 innings allowing 3 runs. Dean totaled 8 strike outs while only allowing one walk. Jamie Daniel finished the game, throwing 2 scoreless innings. Tacoma took game 1 by a score of 9-3.

The 2nd game of the day was much of the same for the Titans. TCC hitters totaled 8 hits and drew 6 walks and scored a run in every inning but the 6th. Marcus Hinkle led the way going 3-3 with his 2nd homerun of the day. Seth Heck had 2 hits and scored a run and Ben Circeo scored 3 of TCC’s 8 runs. On the 2nd day of the series, Game 3 started off with JJ Nazzaro scoring on a Stephan Adams’ sacrifice fly in the top of the 1st. In the 4th inning, the Titans got on the board again with 3 runs to push the lead to 4-0. TCC added another 4 runs in the 6th, capped by a 2-RBI double by Garrett DeGallier, giving them an 8-0 lead. Nazzaro and DeGallier both led the Titan hitters with each having 2 hits on the day. TCC scored 15 runs off a combination of 10 Tacoma hits and 10 Green River errors. Starting pitcher Garrett Picha was lights out for TCC going 7 strong innings, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 9 Gators batters. Tacoma put up another 6 runs in the top of the 9th to win game 3 of the series 15-2.

The last game of the series was a lot closer than all the other games of the series. Jeff Larabee on the mound for Tacoma cruised going 6 innings in the 7inning game, allowing 4 hits and 1 run. TCC’s offence scored in the first 4 innings of the game to give the Titans a 5-0 lead. DeGallier had another 2 hit game and Clayton Brown went 2-2 with a walk and scored 2 of the 5 runs. Seth Heck also scored 2 runs with A hit and drew 2 walks. Talon Sisley came in to pitch the 7th inning, striking out 2 Gators to finish game of the series for a 5-1 win and giving TCC the series sweep.

“I thought we played well in all aspects of the game this weekend. We had solid starting pitching, great defense and were patient enough to draw a lot of walks allowing opportunities for us to drive in runs,” said Head Coach Ryan Mummert. “Sweeps are hard to come by, so I am very pleased to go 4-0.”

The Titans are now 14-3 and in 1st place in the West Division.
