Tacoma, WA - TCC Baseball won their 3rd Division series in a row going 3-1 against Green River Community College. The Titans(18-8, 9-3) split at Green River, 7-8 and 9-3, and swept at home, 9-0 and 6-4. The series was filled with a lot of excitement.

Game 1 was back and forth with numerous ties and lead changes. The Titans jumped on the scoreboard 1st when Beau Rogers singled to score John Pagel to give the Titans a 1-0 Lead. But Green River would answer in the bottom half of the Inning with 3 runs of their own off starter Andrew Olson. Olson would settle down allowing no more runs or hits and striking out 5 after that inning. In the 5th, RBI singles by Rogers and David Olson tied the game at 3. David Olson would come up big again with a 2-RBI Double and push the Titans ahead, 5-3. Jeff Larabee would take over in relief for Andrew Olson in the 8th. Green River would get a broken bat, 2 RBI single and tie it again at 5-5, giving Andrew Olson the No Decision. TCC would again take the lead in the top of the 9th, 7-5, with back to back Sac Fly's by David Olson and Brandon Johnson. But the lead would not hold. With 2 outs and the bases loaded, the Green River 3-hole hitter, hit a ball to left-center that was just out of the grasp of diving Centerfielder Clayton Brown. The runner from 1st base was off on contact and the relay throw to home was not in time giving Green River the 8-7 win. JJ Nazzaro, Rogers, and David Olson each had 2 hits and David Olson had 4 RBIs on the day.

After a tough loss in Game 1, the Titans started slow in Game 2. The game was scoreless going into the 6th inning, but the Titan bats woke up, to go along with 4 Green River errors and put up 6 runs in the inning. Andrew Thaut came off the bench and sparked the rally with a 2 RBI single and Beau Rogers added a RBI Double. 3 more runs in the 7th inning gave TCC a 9-0 lead. Matt Bell had another dominant outing, allowing only 1 earned run on 3 hits over 6 1/3 innings. Bell also struck out 8 Green River hitters and walked only 1.

With Easter on Sunday, Day 2 of the Division Series was played on Wednesday. The Titans picked up where they left off in Game 2, with hot bats and great starting pitching. TCC jumped on Green River in the 1st inning getting 2-out RBI singles by Stephan Adams and Trey Cochran for a 2-0 lead. The Titans added 4 more runs in the 2nd inning, capped by a 2-Run Triple by Brandon Johnson, for a 6-0 lead. Trey Cochran would extend TCC's lead to 9-0 with a 3-Run Home Run in the 7th, his 1st of the year. Starter David Lidyard didn't need much run support, as he had another great performance on the mound to earn the win. Lidyard pitched 7 strong innings, scattering 4 hits, with no runs, to go with 6 strikeouts. Matt Jackson and Matt Houser pitched no-hit 8th and 9th innings to preserve the shutout. Trey Cochran led the offense with 2 hits and 4 RBIs and Clayton Brown also had 2 hits.

The last game of the series had some fireworks. Nick Foster got TCC on the scoreboard with an RBI Double in the 2nd inning. Back to back Doubles by Rogers and Brown in the 3rd pushed the Titans lead to 2-0. The offense would string together 4 hits with 2 outs in the 5th for a 4-1 lead. Larabee would relieve starter Dylan Baker in the 6th and run into some trouble. After a lead off error, Green River tallied back to back hits to score 2 runs and cut TCC's lead to 4-3 with no outs. Matt Bell came in to relieve Larabee and almost got out of the jam. But with 2 outs, back to back errors allowed Green River to tie the game at 4-4. After tying the game, Green River brought in their ace and Draft prospect Cody Hebner. After he retired TCC batters in order in the bottom of the 6th, Bell did the same in the top of the 7th to keep the game tied. In the bottom half of the 7th, TCC's last chance before extra inning, started with a lead-off single by David Olson. That brought to the plate Brandon Johnson, who was 2-3 already in the game. Johnson sent Hebner's 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for a Walk Off 2-Run Home Run and gave the Titans the series win. Johnson was mobbed at home plate by his teammates. The win is TCC's 8th win in 11 games against Green River.

"Our Players showed a lot of heart in this series. After losing Game 1 the way we did, that could have killed us the rest of the series. But for our guys to come back and win the last 3, says a lot about our club." said Head Coach Ryan Mummert. "And to win it with a walk off home run, what a feeling. I'm proud of these players. But we can't celebrate too long as we have a quick turnaround this weekend."

The Titans take on Grays Harbor this weekend in West Division play. The 1st 2 games are home this Saturday at Minnitti Field. Games 3 and 4 are on the road at Grays Harbor. Start times for both days are 1pm.
