Tacoma, WA - With a week off from Division play, the TCC Baseball team took on Skagit Valley College and Concordia University JV in non-league games. The Titans went 3-3 during the bye week as they get ready for Green River this weekend.

The Titans took on Skagit Valley on Friday in a Doubleheader at Minnitti Field. It was was a tough start Saturday as Ace Andrew Olson had an off day. Skagit posted 5 runs in the 1st inning, which made it tough to come back. The offense made a run and cut the lead to 6-4 in the 5th, but the Titans would not get any closer and dropped the 1st game of the day by the same score. Clayton Brown, Stephan Adams and Nick foster had 2 hits each and Jeff Larabee had a solid outing inning in relief going 5 strong, only allowing 2 hits and no runs.

In the 2nd game the Titans got on the board in the 1st when Beau Rogers led off with a single. He would later score on an RBI single by David Olson. TCC would tack on 4 more runs in the 3rd, capped off by a 2-run homerun by cleanup hitter Brandon Johnson, his 5th of the year. The Titan offense was led by Johnson and David Olson, who had 2 hits and 2 RBIs a piece. Clayton Brown also had 2 hits in the 6-1 win. Matt Bell got the start and pitched very well going 6 innings, while only allowing 1 run on 2 hits to go with 6 strikeouts. Talon Sisley finished the game pitching a scoreless 7th inning.

Games 3 and 4 at Skagit didn't go the Titans way. In Game 3, Skagit jumped on starter David Lidyard for 4 runs in the 1st 2 inning to take a 4-0 lead. Titan hitters, unable to string anything together, only managed 1 run on 5 hits. Skagit would add 2 more runs to make the final 6-1. With the loss Lidyard dropped his record to 2-2.

Game 4 against Skagit was dominated by both pitching staffs. TCC managed only 3 hits, but one of those hits, a 2-RBI double by Trey Cochran in the 3rd inning, gave TCC a 2-1 lead. Skagit would tie it at 2-2 in the bottom half of the 3rd, where it would remain and push the game into extra inning of the 7 inning game. In the top of the 8th, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, the Titans executed a perfect squeeze play to give TCC a 3-2 lead going into the bottom half of the inning. David Olson came in to close the game with 1 out and a runner on 2nd base. After a strikeout and 2 walks, the Titans were 1 out away from a win with the bases loaded. But an error on the next pitch would allow Skagit to tie the game at 3 and the next batter would single, giving Skagit a 4-3 win. Dylan Baker got the start and held Skagit to 2 runs on 3 hits over 4 innings. Matt Jackson would relieve Baker allowing 1 run on 1 hit over 3 1/3 innings.

"It was a tough series for us. Our 2 Sophomore starters(Andrew Olson and David Lidyard), who have been outstanding, had bad days. It happens. The good thing I told our guys is better this week during non-league, then when it counts later," proclaimed Head Coach Ryan Mummert. "When you look at it we were 1 out away from splitting. But give Skagit credit, they took advantage of our mistakes and that's why they won the series."

The Titans were back at it on Wednesday taking on Concordia JV in a doubleheader at home. TCC got back to winning taking both games by scores of 10-1 and 6-1 to improve to 15-7 on the year.
