Tacoma, WA (Picture above by William J Miller III) - The TCC Titans went 3-1 over the weekend against Clark College to win their 1st Series of Division play. The Titans split Saturday at Clark, 12-2 and 2-4, and took both at home on Sunday, 9-6 and 5-2.

Saturday began with the Titans jumping out to an early lead. In the 1st inning, TCC scored 3 runs. Clark would keep it close with runs in each of the 1st 2 innings cutting the Titans lead to 3-2. The score would stay locked there until the 6th when TCC would start to pull away. After the 1st 2 batters of the inning reached base, Stephan Adams smacked a double down the Right Field line to score 2 runs. Travis Crumb, who came in to run for Adams, would later score on a sac fly by catcher Stephen Somers, to give the Titans a 6-2 lead. TCC would tack on 4 more in the 7th and 3 more in the 8th for a 12-2 lead. Starter Andrew Olson was steady again scattering 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking only 1, to improve to 4-0 on the season. Olson gave way to Talon Sisley who struck out 2 in his inning of work to invoke the mercy rule. Brandon Johnson, Johnny Pagel, and Clayton Brown each had 2 hits for TCC and David Olson hit a home run and had 3 RBI's in game 1.

Game 2 started out much like Game 1 with the Titans getting on the board early. David Olson smacked a 2 RBI single in the 1st to give TCC a 2-0 lead. But after the 1st inning, the Titans bats and defense went cold. TCC hitters would manage only 2 more hits through the rest of the game and could not manage to find the plate the rest of the game. The defense was not much better committing 5 errors in Game 2 in a 4-2 loss, to spoil a decent performance by starter Matt Bell. Bell only gave up 3 hits and struck out 7 in a complete game effort.

The Titans returned home to Minnitti Field on Sunday and it took a few innings before TCC batters found their groove. Down 1-0 in the 4th, Brandon Johnson led off the inning with his 3rd home run of the year. After a couple more Titan hits, Beau Rogers smacked a 2-run double to put TCC up 4-1 and Trey Cochran would add to the lead with an RBI double in the 6th. TCC would put together 4 hits in the 7th, with Stephan Adams hiting a 2-RBI single for an 8-2 Titan lead. Clark would fight back in the 8th to cut the lead to 8-6, but David Olson came in the 9th and struck out 2 to tally his NWAACC-leading 4th save of the season and preserve the 9-6 Titan victory. TCC was led by 3 hits a piece from Johnson, Rogers and Adams and Johnson was a triple away from the cycle. David Lidyard had another strong outing scattering 4 hits over 7 innings to earn his 1st win of the year.

In the final game of the series, Tacoma jumped on Clark in the 1st inning as Johnson picked up where he left off hitting an RBI double to give the Titans a 3-0 lead after the 1st. Rogers would add a 2 RBI double in the 4th to push TCC's lead to 5-1. The Titans wouldn't need much as Dylan Baker pitched an outstanding game. Baker was masterful as he held Clark to only 2 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 6. He also only gave up only 1 walk to improve to 2-0 on the season.

"I don't think we played our best all weekend, but we won our 1st series of Division play and that's our goal every weekend. We are pitching really well and if we can get a little more consistant at the plate and on defense, I like our chances this year in the West," said Head Coach Ryan Mummert. "I think we have some young guys maturing and with us being so young this allows us to really grow as a team."

The Titans get back to action this weekend against Centralia, who is one game back of them in the West Division standings. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1pm in Centralia, and the Titans are back home on Sunday with a start time of 1pm at TCC's Minnitti Field.
