The TCC baseball team won its Season Opener over the weekend, beating Bellevue College on Saturday. The game was a scheduled doubleheader, but after a 3 hour rain delay, both teams were only able to sneak in a single game. Tacoma beat the Pre-Season #1 ranked Bulldogs 7-6 in the 9 inning game.

Saturday began with the Titan offense getting off to a hot start. TCC scored 7 runs in the 1st 2 innings to chase starter Bellevue Tyler Manke. The offense scored 6 runs in the 2nd inning led by a 2-run triple by Beau Rogers, who later scored and a bad throw, and a 2-run Homerun by Brandon Johnson.

That was all the Titans needed as they threw their returning ace Andrew Olson, a 2nd Team All West Region player from last year. Olson, committed to Seattle U for next year, was up to his old ways of throwing another great game. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on six hits, walking only 2 with 7 strikeouts to earn his 1st win of the year. Dylan Baker relieved Olson and stuck out 2 batters in 1 2/3 innings giving way to Freshman Matt Bell, who came in and slammed the door in 1 1/3 innings for his 1st save of the year.

"I was pleased with our ability to jump out early. We hadn't played a game yet so I was thinking it would take us a while to ease into it, but our hitters put up 7 Runs in the 1st 2 Innings to set the tone," said Head Coach Ryan Mummert. "It's a great win to start the season but we still have a long ways to go."

The win Saturday also marked Coach Mummert's 1st win as the Head Coach at TCC. "It's special due to the fact that I played at Bellevue and they are a great Program. Hopefully we can establish that annually here at TCC."

The Titans get back to action this weekend traveling to Yakima to play Lane CC and Yakima Valley CC in the Bobo Brayton Invite. They play at 10am Saturday and Sunday against Lane and 1pm Saturday and 4pm Sunday against Yakima.
